This is a follow-up to a closed thread

As a result of stansdds' comment regarding vTunnel, I did some Googling and decided to NOT use vTunnel because it requires installing via an .EXE. Instead I experimented with three variations of "ninja proxy" --

But both proxies ELIMINATED THE SLOW PAGE LOADING, so it is definitely *** Comcast's doing!

We are working with other members to come up with proof it is a comcast issue so comcast customers may take that proof to them as evidence.

This will take some time to compile.

Please be patient

And you might end up being one of the ones we work with. :icon_lol:

Sorry about listing the proxies, DD; I was not aware of SOH's restrictions. :redf:

Anyway, glad to hear this is not a dead issue. ATT (Bell South) sends me weekly solicitations to change; if Comcast does not resolve this, they may find me G O N E.

I filed a complaint with Comcast and the FCC. Wow! My connection speed is restored. I don't know if it had anything to do with the complaints, but pages here are loading as fast as ever just a few hours after my filing. Fascinating.

Same here! Thanks for the notice CK.

Isn't it Comcast that slows your connection speed if they think you're using too much bandwidth - like if you're streaming movies or downloading big files - like FS models and sceneries...???

I read that one of the big ISPs was doing that, and I think it was Comcast.

Comcast has been found guilty of doing just that. The FCC called them on it and Comcast basically thumbed their nose at the FCC. As far as I know, under the current law, ISP's may restrict user's access to sites if they suspect piracy is being committed. The ISP is supposed to issue the user a warning first, then they can restrict bandwidth, restrict the number of sites the user may visit, require the user to attend copyright reeducation classes (yes, they are actually calling it "reeducation") and ultimately terminate the user's account. ISP's may also place a monthly download and upload limit on users. If these limits are exceeded, the ISP is to notify the user first. If the infraction continues, then the ISP may throttle or suspend the user's account. All of this is to be with notification to the user before any action is taken.

I posted a reply to this thread a couple of hours ago -- at least I thought I did!

I have no clue as to where it went.

My access speed on this site just went up dramatically; I recently had to type in my user ID and password twice to get in. Sometimes the password - or at least the beginning of it - would show in its box before I stopped. When moving from one spot to another within this site I used to have to click twice on things to get them to work - now they work on the first click. Don't know what you did but whatever it is keep doing it. I hope the bottoms of their feet are singed from where you held them to the fire!:applause:

Same here. A very dramatic improvement over what was experienced previously.

Yup, today is the first time the site has loaded faster than 1 minute in the last week on my comcast cable internet.

...and I thought is was all that snow falling on the pages that was slowing down traffic.
Hmmmmm.....

I'm in Canada, and don't use Comcast. SOH has been slow for me for some time now and I had put it down to the ancient laptop I use on the road, but today SOH is quite snappy indeed! nice!

Living in Blighty is a little different, gone are the days of British Telecoms monopolies (they had their plus points I admit), now all telecom companies can utilize the phone grid (sometimes at a line rental cost) but most of the country can choose any ISP going, sometimes at a cost due to the aforementioned line rentals, but usually out of competition concessions are made to level the ground.

In my case and others, speed restrictions are location based, distance from the telephone exchange in my case. I have a 20Mb package as it's as cheap as any, but only get about 1/2Mb. 2-3 miles away, full speed, rocket powered broadband. Hoping for fiber-optics soon, 40Mb+ would be sweet.Theres talk of improvements soon(ish).

Generally here we have download caps dependent on package, cheaper packs, less gigsof downloads, my old ISP was capped at 2Gb for my package, now that's barely enough for surfing and windows updates, I'm sure I went over it big style every month, nothing happened though. My new ISP whilst cheaper has more sensibly capped me at 40Gb, plenty for my needs. I don't pirate music and movies, so I'm thinking unless I stream non-stop U-tube drivel I'm okay.
