black boxes and missing files

Hi all,

Twice I tried to make a CFS2 for only Holland 1940, using all the great ETO-"stuff" from Rami, KDriver and others (many thanks guys for your superb works!). Though my OBJECTS_DP folder gives problems because of too may dp's I get it working. But when I go to Deelen airport, I get the message that there are files missing which I can't find: Ox9797FC8B, Ox8A930055, Ox11D14A11 and Ox14028DCFA. But after clicking OK it will show and I can fly from it. And though I have downloaded and installed all the necesary scenery, texture, scenerydb, info etc. files, when loading de Vlijt airfield I still get black boxes (trees?).

Suggestions more than welcome :biggrin-new:.

Safe landings and stay virus-free,

hertzie.

Hertzie,

Any time you get those messages in the game, it's an indication you are missing object files. The black boxes and messages represent objects in the GSL that the sim is trying to produce. I will post the Deelen airfield layout file so you can cross-reference what you have in your objects_dp folder versus what is required for that airfield.

Hertzie.

They are MB map coordinates. When you create a layout to turn into GSL, the sim selects a central object and uses those numbers to reference where the other objects are placed relative to that central point. It's identical to the same information you find in a .dp file in the payloads section. You need only concern yourself with the section before the first comma for your needs. :santahat:

Hi Rami,

Don't get me wrong,I appreciate it VERY MUCH that you're trying to help me, but I haven't the slightest idea what I have to do with your info to solve my problem(s). I'm not a designer, only a simple flightsim-player.

Hi Hertzie,

Do you have the latest version of the Netherlands scenery? There were some FS2004 trees at De Vlijt in the first version. I got rid of the trees in the updated package.

Do you have the Arnhem scenery by Gius? If you do, it may be causing the missing objects at Deelen.

Cheers,
Kevin

Hertzie,

Look at the post just before your post this morning. Do you see how this: jp_hangar4 is highlighted in bold? Each entry like that in the layout file represent an object from the OBJECTS_DP folder that the layout uses to generate the GSL scenery.

What these error messages are telling you is that these are missing objects in your OBJECTS_DP folder that the sim can't find to make the GSL scenery display properly. So, what you need to do is to check your objects_DP folder for the following objects. The simplified list below are the library objects required to allow the scenery to display properly.

inf_depot_building
lw_building_d3
bicester
duxhut1
inf_revetment
jp_hangar4
wmtower
af_fltops_blkhse
forest_01
xbbarrack_a
inf_radio_antenna
inf_radio_antenna_bldg
cfsbuild1
cfsbuild2
cfshosp1
inf_oil_barrels

If any of them are missing, post what you can't locate and we'll help you find it. :encouragement:

Kevin,

That's too confusing right now. He's having trouble with Achim's Deelen airfield because he is missing objects from the OBJECTS_DP folder. I'm trying to keep it simple. My hunch is it's either Lindsay Watt's library objects or the library objects from Davmag's Oldenburg pack, but I don't have enough info to make that determination yet.

To Rami: yes, all the mentioned dp's are in my objects_dp folder.

To KDriver: yes, I've downloaded and installed the latest version, problem still the same: black boxes (cows are visible :biggrin-new:). And loading some other airfields cause this CFS2 to crash

Hertzie,

Did you make sure that all of the .bgl and texture files that come with the downloads you mentioned made it into their appropriate folders within the SCENEDB folder? (Usually it's the SCENEDB\inf folder)

To Rami: yes, 2x

To KDriver:

Valkenburg airfield: ok
Ruigenhoek airfield: ok
Volendam seaplane: grass instead of water
Ypenburg airfield: ok
Rotterdam refinery: missing files like Deelen airfield
Ockenburg airfield: CFS2 crashes when loading free flight scenery
Middenmeer airfield: looooooong loading free flight scenery (3 minutes), then CFS2 crashes
De Zilk airfield: ok
Bergen airfield: ok
Amsterdam Schiphol airfield: ok
Amsterdam Schellingwoude: grass instead of water
Amsterdam Buiksloot airfield: ok

In my settings are only the addons that you thought necessary, nothing else!

Extra info for Rami and KDriver:

Only CD-KD Netherlands:

NL-Bergen: ok
NL-Buiksloot: ok
NL-De Kooy: crash
NL-De Mok Seaplane: crash
NL-De Vlijt: crash
NL-De Zilk: ok
NL-Haamstede: ok
NL-Middenmeer: ok
NL-Ockenburg: ok, landclass problem
NL-Ruigenhoek: ok
NL-Schellingwoude seaplane: grass instead of water, ok
NL-Schiphol: ok
NL-Valkenburg: ok
NL-Ypenburg: ok

Only JH-BENL

NE-Deelen: missing Ox-files, ok
NL-Gilze Rijen: ok
NL-Vlissingen: ok
NL-Waalhaven: missing Ox-files, ok
NL-Woensdrecht: missing Ox-files, ok, landclass problem

When I do a new go-to after a good working airfield to a crashing one, after a loooong loading it finally shows 2 from 3 times.

For me the sim is then searching, searching, searching till it finally thinks: ok, let the boy have it or it thinks: forget it boy, NOT this time :biggrin-new:.

Enough for today, stay safe and virus-free,

hertzie.

Hertzie, regarding the missing object at or near Deelen, the GUID (those four sets of letters and numbers you got) looks like a Microsoft object because it starts with 9797FC**. I suspect it could be an FS2002/04 tree.

Confirm you have Sander de Cocq's EurW scenery installed? If you haven't this would cause you to have land where you should have water and vice versa.

There could also be a scenery hierarchy problem - your scenery layers may be in the wrong order.

Apart from a few missing objects, there seems to be an underlying fault.

Keep us posted.

Kevin

To Kevin: yes, EurW is installed. Tonight I will mess around with the scenery-hierarchy, see what comes out. Will let you know.

Regards, hertzie

OK, managed to get water where it should be, so my seaplanebases are water bases now. Do you guys know a way to get more object dp's in the folder than Microsoft allows?

Hi Hertzie,

You can use the overload patch which will allow stacks of more planes, ships and DPs. The only problem is Quick Combat and Mission Builder won't work. I use the patch and have separate installs for those two.

I actually have only one installation of CFS2 and have multiple folders for aircraft, ships, objects_dp, etc. There is a multi-install download in the Utilities section as well as the overload patch. You use batch files to swap your theatres of war or other configurations around.

I hope this helps.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, I'll search for the overload patch. I have FS2002 at home, so I cannot have a search for the 0x-missing files, for I am now on the Canary Islands to stay away fom the Dutch "winter" (which is more a late autumn, with rain, rain, rain and wet snow).

Again, many thanks for the help,

hertzie

You're welcome Hertzie. You can use libview or catgen, which are SCASM programs, to look at the contents of library files in the SCENEDB/inf folder. They will show the GUIDs for each object. There will be no "0x" prefix.

Sometimes, particularly with FS2002/04, the BGL files will have to be decompressed before you can view them with libview or catgen.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Kevin
