"Blue 11"

SOH-CM-2023
For some time ago I asked if any of the scenery guys here could help with recreating "Fliegerhorst Rygge", a old Luftwaffe airfield south of Oslo, in FSX. The scenery is coming along nicely and I wanted to get a BF-109 to fly from it. JG5 ”Eismeer-Geschwader" was the parent unit for all Luftwaffe fighter units in Norway and the 16. Staffel (later called 6. Jagtgruppe) operated BF-109G-14 out of Rygge. We don't have a Gustav 14, but we do have a superb K-4 made by Flight Replicas, there are some differences between the two related marks, but all in all a good match I think.

I seldom do Luftwaffe paints, but I have given it a try on Blue 11. The German paint schemes are a completely chaos in my mind with all kind of factory and/or local mods compared to the rather strict RAF/USAAF guidelines. So I'll welcome any help and feedback I can get.

I like it. Given that most of the photos from that era were B&W, getting the colors 100% accurate is nearly impossible. RLM numbers are known to be used, but by late war supplies were low. How do we know exactly how much was cut to make it go farther, therefore the shades may be off, etc...

I think it's a great representation of the aircraft.

Do you have plans to add the "Eismeer" badge below the cockpit? Some profiles I've seen in books have it, but no photos.

Looking good Jens. We do need some more paints for FR 109K. Looks like i'll be moving the
109K from the back of the hanger to the front as she has been neglected for a little to long.
Also looking forward to the Luftwaffe airfield.

I remember you posting about that airfield. I told all of the guys in my Hobby Club (Plastic Models, mainly planes) about it and they found it quite interesting, especially the wood runway. They had modeled the wood revetments before, but had not seen it used for a runway. Hopefully the guys working on the scenery will also make it compatible with the Orbx Norway scenery when it's released as well.

Nice work on the paint scheme, I'll definitely be flying that texture.

Thanks :)

I'm waiting for some recently ordered books to confirm if it had the eismeer badge. Maybe I'll get a fix on the serial as well.

From the scars information I have so far so have this bird no JG5 patch, but something which can look like a "miners badge" (at least something similar to the sign I saw in the mining city of Cave de Predil on the Italian/Slovenian border this summer) below the cockpit.

Jens, I have quite a library about the Bf109, but I haven't been able to find many pictures from Uffz Erler's G-14. I have one clear picture from the right side of the aircraft but this doesn't show any additional markings.

I like the repaint, and think the colours are pretty good. The K version sure is a clean looking bird.

Cheers,
Huub

I really do like that dabble affect with this paint , i've only got the FSX K model , the G would be a bonus least in respect to get the so many more scheme s for the 109 , The K is a great model finding photo's of one with a replaced wing was a goodie, a brilliant FSX ME !<input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><input jscode="leoInternalChangeDone()" onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">

Thank you Huub and Ian! Far from your quality Huub, but I hope to learn some more about the German schemes. Some interesting A-8s from Herdla to paint as well. Huub, you don't by any chance have a FW-190 late (A-8) master texture set with weathering, exhaust stains and layered camo I can borrow from you? (The included master textures are rather factory fresh in regards of added fx).

The Kagero publication "Luftwaffe over the Far North – part 1" has Blue 11 included. I do not have the book yet myself (on order + some Norwegian books about JG5 in Norway), but from the available low res picture of the profile included in Kageros book it looks like to be a symbol on the left side under the cockpit (as mentioned to be looking something like the miners symbol). No JG5 badge as far as I can see.

JensOle, I can't promise anything as I don't have any layered files for repaints from the Classics Hangar FW190 on this computer. Most were done on a computer which crashed. But perhaps I can still find something on the computer which I had before that one as I used for quite a long period to make my repaint on.

A while ago I started to make a more detailed paintkit for the Flight Replica Bf 109-K. It is one of my too many project and I'm afraid I don't have much free time to finish it. So far I only did the textures for the upper wings. Detailed weathering might be a problem as some textures stretch a bit.

Cheers,
Huub

That looks very nice!! I noticed that the drop tank panel lines do not line up and I have done a realignment of the panel lines in both the texture and bump files. I also noticed that most Bf drop tanks have the "Actung! Kraftstoffbehalter" and "Keine Bombe!" danger decals, so I have included it. Quite funny with the Keine Bombe decal...

I have been tempted on Erich Hartmanns last G-10 (<<+) as well, it is an even closer match for the K-4 model with the flush top engine cowling (no drums).

JensOle, I found/made these for you. Hopefully they meet your expectations. Shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send them to you.

Cheers,
Huub

Now I just need to learn to land the beast.... I must say I find the FW very difficult to get a good landing compared to the BF and Spitfire. Probably something to do with what feels like a very accurate flight model and limited forward visibility. I guess the trick might be to use the same landing technic as with ww2 carrier aircraft with a rather circular approach.

The textures are in the mail. Enjoy, but I should warn you I never intended to share these layered file so the file is a bit messy. Layers have English names in most cases but there are a few which might have a bit weird names.....

To test it I started a quick an dirty JG5 repaint as you can see below.

Cheers,
Huub

Oops I think I more or less high-jacked your thread. Sorry this was not intentional........

No problem :) Thank you for the files. My paint is White 10 of Rudi Artner, the nemesis of two Beaufighters during the 9th Feb anti shipping attack of the Dallachy wing.
