BoB campaign problem

nik112

Charter Member
Hi all
I installed "CFS2 BoB manual install" and started bob-August 1940 campaign after 2 days of installing scenery-planes-objects according to Rami's tutorial and i faced 2 probs
1/ i took a strange message when i tried to start campaign saying "the pilot name contains illegal characters or its invalid.please select another name"
then i copied mis & dyn from campaign to mission folder and the i faced the second prob

The first mission "August 1940 1 mis" said that i take off from Manston but i took off from fields. i checked mis
with airbases dat from August 1940 folder and base lon-lat was the same. Also i took a look at Achim's jhs England scenery and at the airbases dat had the same figures.

Any help will be appreciated
thanks:running:

Nik112,

I haven't faced the campaign issue before, but your observation of the Manston problem dates back to CFS1. Manston aerodrome should be NNE of Hawkinge, which, by the way, is also not located correctly, but CFS1 has it located in southwest England. The airbase that is approximately where Manston would be is named "Ramsgate." Not wanting to have to make numerous changes to that mission, I chose to leave it in the "improper" Manston location.

If you're striving for 100% authenticity, I apologize on that point. However, I want to stress that if you fly other Early ETO campaigns (Chianti Raiders, Heinkels, Battle of France, etc.) you will notice that many of those same objects and such are used over and over again. You've essentially installed the granddaddy of the early ETO campaigns, with the most to download and install.

"Battle for Europe" is the same type of thing in the late ETO, it's the beast by which all others are measured, in terms of the stuff you need.

Nik112,

I can't tell from that picture...it is WAY too small. I tried expanding it on my desktop, and I can't even read it.

I'm still not sure about the first problem you mentioned.

Nik112,

So far it looks good...if you can post your scenery.cfg I can tell for sure. But from the looks of this, you'll need to install the bases for JHS_England and JHS_France_North.

Nik112.

You only have the BoB bases in your scenery.cfg file. The RAF side to the Battle of Britain requires Achim's England airbases and his Northern French airbases. (There are links to these packages in the readme document)

Nik112,

Now you're cooking with gas. As long as you have all the objects required for these bases, you're good to go. :icon29:

required objects

thanks Rami for your reply. Now about Achims required objects i tried to d/l but it couldn't be possible (server problem) maybe. Also i had a problem with mission builder,i took the familiar message "failed to initialize the database..." i checked the a/c and ship folder and its under 100 items each. Whats next step to solve the prob?

thanks

Nik112,

The library problem looks like a bad redirect, we senior admins are looking into it and grabbing our tool kits. So just hang tight on that one.

As far as the "failure to initialize" message, remember that this includes aircraft AND skins. (texture sets) If this total eclipses 100, (or less on some systems, some say it's as low as 90) you'll get that message.

How to fix it depends on the operating system you have. What's yours?

Nik112,

My apologies, but I have been so busy, I forgot to respond to this. In a Windows 7 system, I'm not sure that you can recover the sim without a re-install. To fix the "failure to initialize" error, you need to make sure your aircraft (and skins) as well as the amount of ships you have, are below 100.

To attempt a fix, use your windows search feature to look for and delete all of the filelist.dat files in your CFS2 scenery folders, and also have it look for all .cdp files. deleting those as well. Additionally, you'll have to replace your Quick Combat (.qcb) file with a backup, from either your folder or from your install disks, and then allow CFS2 to run, where these files will re-generate. If this fails, you will have to reinstall the game. I know these steps work for an XP system.

This might be the cause of your campaign issue, as well.

Nik112,

No problem, I was checking the forms after having finished a German nightfighter mission in a Ju-88 I've been working on.

It didn't work out too bad, I was flying a Ju-88g and managed to bring down about four Halifaxes before I endured heavy fire and had to break off with two engines burning. I managed to put her down at Oldenburg, barely.
