Bobcat Panel

OK, lots going on with the T-50 Bobcat. Then I remembered DrZook made a panel mod for it some time ago. Heres the hitch; one needs to add a .bmp to an existing texture .bmp. I tried, but my panel was just flat grey with guages. Can I use PhotoShop elements to do the job? What do I save the .bmp file as, 16, 24, or 32 bit? Mod in question is "ALPHA_T50_panel_fs9" by DrZook. Have not seen the good Dr in this forum recently, I think. Any pointers would help. Plus, pointing me to a good textures tutorial as well. Thanks all!

After you modify the bmp in Photoshop and save it as a bmp, you need to run it through Martin Wright's DXTbmp to save it as an extended format bmp. 565 or 888 are my preferred formats for FS2004.

Sorry, I'm afraid that one wasn't my mod. You got me confused with DrZGard. Granted I mod panels every once in a while but none of them are good enough to upload; well not yet.:kilroy:

Dandog, if you can send me the file(s) and tell me what you want specifically, I will do it for you.

Ran through the DXTBMP and saved as suggested. Worked GREAT. Yes, I am mistaken, it was DrZGard's panel. The more I learn about tweaking FS9, the less flyin I'll be able to do.

I take it DrZGard is no longer around...have never seen him in the forum. I downloaded his panel mod....and really like it...so much so that I am thinking about incorporating it into the Bobcat "restoration".

He is of course still around; was here Nov 25th.

Hi guys... WOW, glad you noticed the Bobcat panel. I enjoyed futzing with it when I improved on the stock one. Remember it utilized much of the gauges from Milton's work so as long as this is OK with Milton you have full permission to use the bitmaps I did for the VC and panel. I'd love to see the finished product. :wavey:

Thanks DrZGard. Your modified panel looks great in the Bobcat and really brings gives the plane that much more life and functionality. The humble little twin-engine plane is one of my favorites to fly around in....and now that the wheeled version will fly close to the speeds of the real life one, it is even that much nicer to fly around in.

I have been granted permission by Scott Thomas, the gauge guru on Milton's team, to use the gauges as part of the Bobcat's restoration and improvement.

Not to stray too far off-topic but has anyone had any success in removing the magazines/posters/maps from the Bobcat's VC? I love the Bobcat (purchased her when she was first released) but have always found the magazines to be a distraction. I've tried modifying the textures giving them the RGB values of 0/0/0 but the textures appear to be set as reflective instead of transparent. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I also find the magazines to be a bit odd....I will take a look and see what I can do about "removing" them. If they are reflective, I can use a hex editor to remove the reflectivity then use the alpha channel to make them totally translucent.

As we wait for the Sooper Elektra, This is a great plane to warm up the twin engine skills.
Guess I need to try the DrZgard panel too.

Got obio's engine textures aboard, lookin good!
