'Bonehead Move Of The Day = David Reutimann'

Reutimann is a rather layed back self effacing personality. I've never seen him go after someone without a good reason. I take it you missed the shot after the race where Joe Gibbs was trying to talk to Kyle and he just stormed off.

Yeah I missed the Gibbs/Kyle shot...But when the all important interview was there with cameras in his face, I didn't see Kyle acting immature...

Reutimann and "KB" have a bit of history. They don't like each other much. While I'm starting to like Kyle Busch a teeny tiny bit more each year, I thought he had it coming today from the 00 car.

PRB how so?
The replay looked to me like Reutimann slowed down for a second & when he did, Kyle hit him....

I think Kyle is holding this one in the bank.....If Reutimann ever makes The Chase, he'd better keep his head on a swivel...

Only based on the history between the two. Your description of the initial event may well be accurate. But I'm sure Kyle would have tried harder to avoid the car in front of him had it been his team mate, for example. Agree that if Kyle and "Rooty" are in the chase in the future it could get interesting. But for this year, it's Kyle who maybe ought to be thinking of who, outiside the chase, with nothing to loose, could make his chase hopes problematic... :icon_lol:

I saw the whole race. Reutimann did slow down quite a bit in one of the turns, Kyle was right behind him and did not or could not slow down fast enough, tapped the 00 and that sent the 00 into the wall. Reutimann got the 00 patched up, went back onto the track and when he got to Kyle it looked quite intentional, but it ultimately backfired with Reutimann getting the 00 really messed up. Kyle's car suffered rear suspension damage and wound up about 5 laps down. In the garage, Gibbs did have words with Kyle as Kyle was hot and his in-car radio conversations showed it. It was a case of an accident being misinterpreted with resulting payback that was not deserved.

Hey All,

Kyle was right behind him and did not or could not slow down fast enough
Go to NASCAR dot com and watch the video - the 00 slowed and Kyle did not back off enough - I don't believe Kyle hit the brake and I don't believe Kyle backed off soon enough - it was absolutely not like the 00 suddenly hit the brakes - Kyle had time - he just chose to hit him and Kyle knows it. I think it is simple - from Kyle's perspective - do I hit the guy in front of me or do I hit my brakes and really slow down and maybe somebody behind me hits me. Kyle should know if anybody is behind him - he has a spotter and a mirror - so Kyle made his choice and he knows it. On the video Kyle admitted it was his fault and said NASCAR should take no action - I don't think Kyle wants NASCAR looking at this too hard. I think NASCAR should let it go.

At the end of the day it's about respect. Both Kyle and Denny need to figure out that individually each of them is nothing more than one of 43 cars trying to win a race. The fact that they are in the chase is and should be irrelevant to the other 31 non-chase cars on the track. They are all on equal footing every race. I've no doubt that is the message Joe Gibbs is trying to get across to both of them.

Should the 00 have hit Kyle - no but you know - not a single one of those other 31 cars should be shown one ounce of disrespect by chase drivers because they didn't make the chase. Message sent - do you get it Kyle? Denny's time is coming unless he keeps his nose real clean like he did today.

And as for the coverage - these guys other than Dale Jarrett are jokes and their camera's constantly miss the action. Whatever you think of Daryl and Larry Mac they actually know what they are talking about and they have the video. I've figured out not to rely on what these guys say.

One final thought....
I wonder why folks didn't treat Earnhardt Sr today like "Rowdy" got treated..:ques:

Hey All,

I can't remember Sr ever taking a cheap shot at anyone - well except maybe once that I can think of - the time Terry LaBonte passed him (at Bristol?) and Sr caught him and wrecked him. Sr owned right up to it saying "I didn't mean to wreck him just rattle his cage a little" - with an Earnhardt grin. You basically knew where you stood with Sr and what to expect and it absolutely did not include hitting and/or wrecking you or other drivers before the race is even a third of the way over like you see with Denny and Kyle. If you scrood up and everybody stroos up time to time - you immediately had your spotter tell the other driver's spotter that you strood up and apologised and to tell the driver that. Kyle did not do that which sends a clear message to Reutiman that Kyle thinks he has every right to spin him out as a non-chase driver. No driver who expects to have the respect of his owner or crew is gonna tolerate that. That is why a laid back driver like Reutiman did what he did and NASCAR should just let it go. Even Kyle either realized or was told that by Joe Gibbs as in the interview he said Reutimann could wreck him next year in the first 26 races and he would understand that but why today as a nonchase driver? Kyle and Denny can either learn respect the easy way or the hard way but they will learn it - you can count on that.

NASCAR is so inconsistent with their penalties that it doesn't really matter what they do....It's always fascinating trying to guess what a NASCAR penalty will be due to inconsistency in the past.....

Good thing for me that I'm not a huge "Rowdy" fan anyways :)

Wonder if Las Vegas sets odds on penalties?

Hey All,

NASCAR got this one right! Good on em! No penalties - not even a talking to. At Kansas Reutimann made a statement - a statement I believe needed to be made. I've no doubt words will be said at the driver's meeting in Fontana as they should be said. They'll be about respect - respect for every driver on the track. I often don't agree with NASCAR but they definitely got this one right. (Oh an keep your bumpers OFF the 48!:jump:)

Nothing wrong with using the bumper but there is a time and a place.

Danica - she is admitting she needs help in NASCAR. She didn't grow up in a stock car and has no feel for what she can and can't do with one. She says she would appreciate any help somebody like Mark Martin could give her. She steps up and sets her pride aside and is honest and straighforward - I like that. As a driver she takes care of her equipment and finishes races - in open wheel she just needs some more aggression on the track - I really liked what I saw between her and TK last weekend. Now the Earnhardts need to give her the help she needs - bring Mark in - I think he might be ideal for helping Danica. No I'm not a Martin fan as I have never liked what he did to give Roush it's only championship - but that is history - he is a driver who knows how to help.

As for the rest of the chase here are some stats on Jimmie.

"SR" as you called him was a cheap shot..if he could..he would take a guy out with a so called "tap" he started it..not gordon or wallace...dale was a jerk not a hero..shame he died the way he did...but he was just plain dirty..they called him the intimidator not because he taught "lessons" which taught good driving skill but rather lessons which taught a driver "dont mess with dale"...he sucked and so does JR...JR needs to stop drinking so much and come out of the closet and admit he is gay and then get his head back into rcing..then and only then will he do well again

As far as Dale Earnhardt goes...I was a fan of his from the get go...and he was a dirty racer and would put people into the wall if that is what it took for him to win. He did not earn the name "The Intimidator" for passing out pansies at the airport....he earned that name by being a highly aggressive driver who would clear himself a path to the winner's circle.

As far as Jr. goes....Daveroo's comments gave me the best laught I have had all week.

Oh, don't refer to Dale Earnhardt as Sr. I once heard him correct an interviewer on that subject. He said that his name was Dale Earnhardt and just because his wife chose to name their son after him that did not change his name one bit.
