Boomerang whistle

I have been working on the sound pack for Akemi's CA-13 Boomerang. The engine sounds are spot on and sound amazing. I am now tackling the gun port whistle. Spent a good number of hours on the net trying to find just the right whistle sound...didn't find one that was spot on, but found one that was close enough for me to tweak into shape. I have the gun port whistle in place and working...but only from the internal view. I need to figure out a way to get the whistle sound to play when in spot view. I don't want to tie it into the prop sound or the engine sounds as the whistling is something you would only hear at higher speeds...if I tie the whistle into either the prop or engine sounds, you would hear it even with the plane sitting still with the engine revved....not good.

Will keep working on it until I get it.

Also working on a repaint template for the Boomerang...thank goodness for ACM and the ability to export UV maps...makes painting Akemi's planes so much easier knowing where the actual body parts are located on the texture sheets.

Well poop....after studying the sound sdk and giving Lawdog's Stuka sounds a bit of flight time...it is now clear that getting the whistle sound to work externally isn't going to happen. The sim just isn't set up for external wind sounds.

Do you guys want the whistle included even if it is only internally?

OBIO

Have you looked at fnerg's (Doug Smith) Mustang sounds with the whistle included? Only whistles at full throttle and stops when pulling the throttle back a degree or so.

I took at look at Fnerg's Mustang sounds and incorporated the whistle into the Boomerang sound pack. And with the whistle being activated by throttle position...not a good thing. The whistle sound kicks in at full throttle..even in the plane is on the ground with the parking brakes on and not moving at all. Not very realistic.

I think my best bet would be to dig around for an xlm based sound gauge that I can modify to play the whistle sound when air speed is in excess of 240 mph or something like that. Will have to dig through my gauges folder and see what I can find to work with.

Yep, that'd work, too. Or G-force like in the activation of wingtip vortex or even the sonic boom gauge.

I was going to say about the possibility of tying it into a g-force gauge too, I do have an afterburner sound that is played when the afterburner lights up in spot view but its just a thud sound

I have found a freeware gauge that can be used to activate sounds...just need to figure it out and how to get it set up to work automatically second hand....the gauge can linked to various switches..but not to the air speed. So, I am going to have to figure out the xlm coding to monitor the air speed, and when the air speed hits X, switch on the wing lights..or which ever type of seldomly used light I can find a switch to activate. The activation of the lights with cause the switch to flip from OFF to ON. The sound gauge will monitor the light switch, and when the switch kicks on, then it will in turn activate the whistle sound.

It may be a while before I get the whistle working.

Could you tie it to an vortices gauge do u think, would make it quite realistic as its airflow and AoA change over the gunports that causes it...I have no idea about gauges so this is just a Q n A post :kilroy:

Whistling Boomer

Hey Obio,

I'd be very intrested to see how you crack that nut and incorporate that whistle sound. Guess I'll have to stay tuned here to see any new
developements. Good Luck....

So far, my efforts to crack that nut have met with failure. Luckily, I got a PM from someone who knows how to work with and create gauges.....perhaps he can crack the nut for us.

Downloaded, installed, tested......wonerful, wonerful!!!! I just need to tweak the whistle sound and all will be ready to roll.

Thanks Oh so very much for the work you put into the gauge.

What's the verdict?

So what is the news Obio? Did ya get the sound tweaked enough
to post yet? :kilroy:
