BPF Operation Meridian

Lee,

OK here the procedure in more detail.
First: The elevation of the Area16 is determined by an entry in Edit = scenery properties = Dimensions = Altitude. Set this to "0" because your airfield is close to the coast line.
Second: Once you have created the Area16 you see a triangle.
Third: Now left-click directly on one part of one of the three lines and drag it somewhere. You now have another point which can be dragged. After having created four or more points drag them in a manner that the entire scenery is inside that area. Make sure that everything covered by the mask or everything what is visible is well covered with some space to spare..
Now you have inside Area16 a flat area with an elevation of 0 feet where you can place gsl objects which are not sunken in.
I do hope that helps. If not give me a shout.

Cheers

Achim

DD73,

Make sure your A16N flatten extends to include any paths, parking areas. CFS 2 has issues displaying FSSC background bitmaps on anything except flat ground, as it sits the backgound at the same altitude as the flatten. The bitmap won't follow the terrain. As Achim hinted, you can add extra points to your existing A16N flatten to draw the shape you need - it doesn't need to be square or rectangular.

Thanks UncleT,
The A16N is about twice the size of the area of the airfield, taxiways and parking area.

I used the FSSC grass texture polys in all of the areas around the 2D objects.

I will do a bit more playing with it at some point in time. I just needed a simple, small IJAAF fighter base for the Meridian missions.

Now that it is approximately where it was back in '44-'45, I can build some buildings and parked Zekes and be good for now.

Google earth doesn't show any remnants of an airfield in the area, but that isn't surprising. P2 is almost completely gone in Google earth.

The runway can still be seen, but the jungle has reclaimed the surrounding area.

Update:

During the SOH holiday I redid the missions based upon more accurate information supplied by JB.
I also built my first airfield, Manna Sumatra, for use in the missions.

They are all completed and I awaiting advice from those testing them for me and revamping of the airfield to make it better.

Should be ready to replace the BETA version at least by US Thanksgiving.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Campaigns Add-Ons

Description: This is an updated nine mission set of combat missions flown in January, 1945 by the British Eastern Fleet against Imperial Japanese forces on the island of Sumatra in preparation for its conversion to the British Pacific Fleet of Task Force 57. In this set of missions you will fly in Seafires, Fireflies, Hellcats, Corsairs and Avengers against oil refineries and airfields. You will be involved in dogfights and ground attack missions in the midst of very heavy flak over the target areas. I have included the aircraft modification files to add to the original aircraft folders and directions on how to modify the ship DPs.

The comments you make there will appear in the posts below.

Okay,

I have finished with the modifications to the Operation Meridian Campaign and submitted it to add to the library as a replacement to the original I sent in several months ago.

Still working on the BPF Task Force 57 missions and will finish them up, hopefully before we retire at the end of August.

If not, Starting in September, I might just have a bit more time on my hands to finish them up......:untroubled:

After Rhumba's fantastic GSW work, I have decided to renew British Pacific Fleet's Operation Meridian and include pre-Meridian operations.

Here is what Palembang looks like with Richard's new modifications.

I have not worked on the oil refineries or airbases yet.
The old ones show as black textures. I suspect an elevation adjustment will correct that.

Scenery is going to take some major work to upgrade to Rhumba's GSW standards.
The GSL buildings and roads are all off by several meters.
The elevations need work also. I am going to do a couple of flattens and remove the Sumatra2017 GSL and see where I can get to from there.

I don't even know if I should do flattens or if they will mess up the wonderful looks of what Richard has done.

Also, I have the darkest textures available and Sumatra is looking like down-Illinois farm country.
Definitely need to find some jungle textures for Sumatra........

Hey all, What happened to the BPF Campaigns after Meridian? I do not see them in the Library anywhere. Lee

Hi Lee,

I don't think they were ever uploaded. I still have everything pending on my computer. There is the beta version of Operation Meridian which includes the aircraft, ships and scenery, while Iceberg, Iceberg Redux and Oolong are three incomplete packages. I can send them to you if you don't have them.

Cheers,
Kevin

Thanks Kevin, I have them on my laptop. They are the most complete versions, but no README file or other instructions. I don't know how to make a self extracting installer version, so I am merely flying the missions in the campaign. Once I get back home at the end of the month, I will see if everything I have for at least Iceberg and Oolong are ready to send in. You or Rami or someone who knows what they are doing will have to make it into a self extracting install. Lee

BPF Operation Meridian (BETA).zip - BPF Operation Meridian (BETA).zip

BPF Operation Meridian is the first in a series of British Pacific Fleet missions and eventual campaign. These missions are where the BPF proved to the USN that they had what it took to take on the Imperial Japanese military in the Pacific. Thanks to Talon and DJ for all of your assistance on these. The missions have not been tested by anyone but me, so I am uploading as is and will tweak them from all the feedback I get before I include them as missions in the upcoming British Pacific...
