Bremerton (KPWT)

Has anyone tested KPWT (originally for FS9) to see if it works in FSX? This has me really curious, as this was my default FS9 airport.

Yea, I have it installed in my FS9 also, but I don't think I ever tried it in FSX. Now that I have the Orbyx PNW scenery installed I don't know if it will work with that all.

I have Orbx PNW also. Partly the reason for my asking. I guess I should have mentioned that too. I'm thinking KPWT could be added above Orbx. There may likely be blending issues (some what easily fixed) that could arise.
......I don't really have the knowledge to mess with things if anything needs tweaking. which is why I ask.:icon_lol:

I always liked this guy's scenery work, even if it was a little heavy on the FPS. Over at Avsim *should* be a download by David (Opa) Marshall that deals with getting things to work in FSX. Compatibility with other scenery I can't address.

Mark Smith made a dang nice rendition of KPWT. And if I recall correctly, he also created Tacoma Narrows. Though very hard on frames back in FS9.

I sent Mark an email some time ago, asking if he was ever going to update his scenery. His response, he stated he got out of flight sim all together. Bummer.
....As for the conversion to FSX, I would gladly cater to using it if someone took on the project to get it there.

I would imagine the biggest hurdle to FSX compatibility would be converting the custom buildings from FS9 to FSX which is probably where most of the fps hit would come from. Things like alpha channel gliches for trees and fences seem to creep into conversions like this as well. Lots to consider, but the scenery is well worth the effort if it can be done without a a major do-over.

For what it's worth, and within my abilities, I would be willing to help anyone who would take on the task

The memory just isn't what it used to be...

Over at FLIGHTSIM, you'll find a conversion by NIGEL GRANT to get things working in FSX.

Tacoma Narrows was done by Bob Bernstein. When I came off the road to drive locally and got back into Flight Simulator I used the triangle (?) of Tacoma, Bremerton and Seattle as my "training" grounds.

I was just going to say I found the update and currently testing it. I have it installed over Orbx PNW without the included exclude files being used, and it works. Not as well as the FS9 version did. But what can you expect. I haven't tested out the hanger to see if it's still animated.

Well, my 2cents. . . .I loaded the base KPWT for FS9 into FSX/Orbyx PNW and aside from what I've come to accept as the normal fps loss* in PNW, I didn't have a problem with the scenery at all. Only two things I did: Converted the AF2_KPWT AFCAD to FSX via AFX. . . . .converted the fence textures to 32bit (no-mips).

So I did not apply the patch. I saw no need to really. For the amount of time I'll spend either on approach or on the airport proper, it suits my needs just fine.:salute:

*Note: Just to qualify my statement about fps loss in PNW. My average fps in FSX is around 22max. Sometimes it climbs to 40 and drops to 8 or 9 depending on how much autogen I have to contend with. In PNW I average 15 to 18 and that's a relatively smooth 15 to 18. So with this KPWT the fps was no less but also no better, hence my reason for keeping it as is. . . .I knew it pretty much matched what I have come to expect in PNW and there wasn't anything I would do that would increase that.
