Here's an oldie for Fs9 that deserves to be 'reintroduced'; the Britten-Norman Islander and Trislander by Marcel Kuhnt.

Make sure you read the instructions well, as you'll need a base pack and a different soundset for the two, three or four-bladed models. You will also need to run an installer included in every aircraft folder that will create an aircraft.cfg if you run it. If you install a new paint all you need to do is run this installer again and it will write a new cfg with the new paint(s) included. Brilliant solution! :)
 
Not to hijack this thread because I LIKE the freeware BN but we, of course, ALL know that the much-maligned, sacrilegious civilian NEXT AlphaSim release is gonna be....

What is the next AS release going to be?
Clue 1- it has Lycoming power plants. Two of them.

So there will be choices... but I DO like freeware... esp. when it's this good

Well, this one has more different versions, it's free and it works in Fs9 which I highly doubt the AS version will do.

:)

Oh, and I wouldn't hold my breath for any future military Alphasim releases anymore...

I don't mind at all.
To be honest, novelty value aside, I'm not a big fan of AS Militaria.
I must be morphing out of 'Warmonger Mode' into 'Civilian Mode'..........................:costumes:

Thanks for the reminder Ferry,
I had downloaded all the bits and pieces just before I started my big reinstall on my current computer and never got around to putting them in.
I see or hear these aircraft in real life almost every day.
There are I think, three Islanders and a Trislander based in Auckland with Great Barrier Airlines that fly services to the islands in the Hauraki Gulf.
I am fortunate to be on their flight path both at home and at work.
They sound beautiful to.
The exhaust set up on these airplanes would bring joy to any hot rodders heart.
Three straight pipes on each side curving out the engine and back to the end of the nacelle.
I was walking out to my car one evening after work and looked up at the familiar sounds to see an Islander followed a short distance behind by the Trislander both heading out on the evening commuter run to the Gulf.
Five Lycomings making sweet music in the still evening air.
Magic.

Off to install now.

Read about halfway down that page and through the next couple pages. Seems there ARE military releases planned.

The Islander will be released for FS9 if it can fit within the sim's limitations. There's no definite answer yet. That being said, it is progressing nicely. Watch the usual places for previews s**n.
 
can anyone recomend a sound for these?..sounds like a cessna 172....and from what is said here...it shouldnt...

I wonder how the ducted fan versions performance is in real life.

i really hope it will be released for FS9 . been waiting for a payware of this plane for a long time and definitely not trying to run FSX on my rig again .
 
Yay a local design, BN are based on the Isle of Wight. The aircraft are currently, I believe made in Romania as labour costs are too high in the UK.

According to a quick Google, the BN uses a Lycoming O-540-E4C5 which is also used by the Cessna 182. All three of the specific sound sets use Cessna files as a core (adapted to the number of blades), so I guess technically they should sound like a Cessna. I haven't tried them yet in this incarnation so will withhold judgment for now.

I've been know to ignore the "technically" correct answers to use a sound I personally like better. So there is no true allegiance to the Cessna at this point, but it's a good starting point.

Can't find it either, tried Flightsim, off to the next big one. Most if not all of the others are on Flightsim to, plus loads of reapaints, just search for 'Marcel Kuhnt'. If you search for Islander there's an AI plane which I intend to put to good use.
