The only US Navy fighter aeroplane in continuous active service from before Pearl Harbour to VJ day.:salute:

You've excelled yourselves with this one. When i saw the pics on your development page a while back I thought this looks as though it will be good... but the end product amazing!

Thankyou Matt much appreciated. Yes I have recently found that feeding modelers gets quite good results. I suppose they'll be wanting shoes next...:engel016:

Absolutely stunning!:jump: My fave US Navy aeroplane - that and the Brewster Buffalo. Just luv those tubby aircraft.

By the by Baz, how is the landing gear retraction modelled? In the F4F a pilot had to manually hand crank the gear up and down - 50 odd revolutions for memory (don't quote me on that).

The undercarriage is modeled and animated exactly like the real one (also based on the F3F)

We have however, shortened the crank handle animation in the VC, guessing you wouldn't really want to crank it 28 turns (yes, 28!) to get the gear up or down, especially heading for a trap on a carrier!

That gear is surprisingly strong despite its flimsy appearance and complex arrangement. I never tire of watching it collapse into those big wells...
