C-119 revival

SOH-CM-2025
Over on the FS9 Forum, there has been a revival of sorts for Daisuke's C-119. It's basically for the FDE which was lacking from what I understand and there have been several completely revised FDE's posted. Several folks are also redoing some liveries (I'm one of those), so if you fly the C-119 and are interested, visit the FS9 Forums and have a look.

I've to admit, I always wanted a good one for FSX. :salute:
I'm flying this one in FSX, Bob Rivera did a nice prop update for it and the VC is actually pretty nice considering how long the original has been circulating. If there is a drawback it could be the very basic pilot and co-pilot figures. . .not very exciting, lol.

The skin I'm working on is being done on a 4096x4096/32bit texture size and really helps maintain a nice clarity in the sim.:salute:

I remember flying that model back in FS9. It had a quite nice view from the cabin.

Hay Ed , I tried Bob's prop texture and still got the transparency issue in FSX . I loaded original(c119bxcr.zip), then c119fix.zip . I did substitute a new FM(air & aircraft.cfg) I think from Milton's remake. I only have the original texture file from the original zip . It flies and handles great on the ground with Milton's new cfg's and the VC as you said is not bad for as old as it is . Is there something I forgot to do ?

Well, I must admit that until now, I haven't really paid any attention to the propdisc. . .assuming that it was fine since it was one Bob had done. However, after going through half a dozen FSX prop textures, all of them are the same. I would have to assume that the problem is in the model and going from past experiences with this, there is no way to correct that without having the source code. Sadly, that puts an end to this for me, at least for FSX. I can handle most port over anomalies, but the specific prop problem I see here is one that I always see as the reason to delete and forget, lol.:salute:

I did try, as I have with numerous FS9 port-overs, to use mdlConvX to try to correct the problem, but in every case I simply get the error message that says it's an "unsupported mdl file". I guess that utility is good for something, but so far, I haven't come across anything, lol.

It may be just that the model is totally reflective including the prop disk. The model issue where the autogen disappears behind the disk is different to this issue as there is no transparency at all.

So is there any way to correct the problem Roger?

Thanks falcon409

Thanks for giving it a try . I still have it loaded in FS9 with the other mods .

BTW: They have a 119 sitting outside with the other aircraft at the Air Force Museum . They all are really getting weathered bad . Among them is a JU-52 , Convair 240 or 340 ?(C-131). In my opinion they all need a home inside and shined up . If you are ever in the Wright Patterson area you need to stop and visit . My son and I hope to visit the Naval Museum in Pensacola next spring . Being retired from the Reserves(as you and I both are) I , we should be eligible to stay on base . Wright Pat VOQ is fairly easy to get into as long as it is not a UTA weekend , then the rooms are usually taken up .:ernae:

You could try changing the mdl to glossy rather than reflective using the 'Shine' utility but then the metal textures would lose their mirror finish.
Hmmm. . . .guess I'm gonna have to ponder this for a bit, I hate to dump the airplane, but looking at that disc all the time just bugs me, lol. Thanks Roger!:salute:

Yea, I was out at Kirtland AFB, NM a few weekends ago for my son's wedding and stayed on-base. Only thing I noticed new when entering the base is that the AP's now scan the ID rather than just looking at it and waving you through. A new system (at least new to me as I haven't even been down to my old base in Ft Worth in a few years) from what my son told me.

I've been to the Museum at Pensacola. . .about 6 years ago when we deployed to Tyndall for two weeks. A bunch of us rented a car and drove over and spent the day there. . .just amazing!
