CAC Boomerang

Still here!
When I was a child, my father brought home a magazine of the S.E.5A. It was the first issue in a series by Profile Publications and cost two shillings (10p or 15 cents nowadays). At the time, these magazines were unrivalled. Usually only about 12 pages long, they included a beautiful 3 view colour profile by the great P. E. Castle. Each issue covered one aircraft in detail. The aircraft were very wide ranging in nationality and timescale and the magazine encouraged my interest in aviation history.

One issue covered the Commonwealth Boomerang. Here was a stubby little fighter with the wings of a Harvard and a big engine stuck in the nose. At the time, I initially wondered why the 'RAF' roundel was missing its red centre. But, reading on, the history of the aircraft soon became clear. A few years later, I made a plastic kit (by Revell I think) of the Boomerang. Once again, I was suprised, but interested in this stubby little fighter.

Well, the recent thread on top 5 Warbirds encouraged me to look at the Flight Replicas Boomerang. Looking at it on their site, and being cost conscious and very strong willed, it took me all of five minutes to decide to purchase it!

It's a very nice model, well painted and it captures the character of the aircraft beautifully :applause:. The VC is great and it comes with a useful manual. Flying it is fun and I even managed to land it properly at my second attempt! BTW, there are three nice repaints available for it here at the SOH.

Cheers

Superb choice Paul! You cannot go wrong with Flight Replicas' work - being a stickler for visual accuracy, Flight Replicas is second to none. I'm really looking forward to Mike's late model Bf 109's, and especially the P-40N! Due to this thread, I think it's about time to get some virtual flight time on the Boomer again tonight. ;)

Don't forget, Mike is the Cubmeister with a new completely tricked out model coming soon. Super tires, leading edge slats, 210 hp and overhead glass everywhere.

Thanks John :). I too am very much looking forward to their late model 109's. That will be a 'must have' for me. I have their 109 package, but that was designed for FS9, although it works in FSX.

The Boomerang is great though. That (and your fantastic P51D) will keep me happy for a while!

I also have FRs CAC Boomerang and love that plane. The visuals are stunning!
I also look forward to his P-40N - this will be an awesome treat...

WOW Mike the CAC Boomerang is everything I thought it would be! The exterior and interior detail are beyond amazing! I compared it to the videos on youtube and your Boomerang is an exact replica of this noble little fighter! Thank you for all the hard work you put into this aircraft.

The story of the Boomerang and it's designer is a remarkable. I thought I knew just about everything there was to know about the threat to Australia from Japan but this airplane was indispensable to the Aussies. I'll be looking for all the great repaints.

Great model, although the model is made for Acceleration, there are mods available which make usable in FSX SP2 without Acceleration as well.

Pips, as I didn't have acceleration when this model was released I had exactly the same question.

The model has a gauge to model a 2 stage blower like the real thing. This doesn't work without acceleration. Engine damage in modeled as well, but without acceleration you can't reach critical revolutions, so you can't crack the engine. But a few easy mods will solve this.

When the model was released I didn't have acceleration installed. Together with Wozza who did most gauges for the model, we made some changes to the aircraft.cgf file and a gauge. With these changes the engine delivers normal power and engine damage works. I have tried to get a working supercharger in SP2, but although I'm convinced it can be done, I never succeeded.

As Wozza and I discussed the mods for SP2 "n public" you can find the complete discussion in the "release thread from the Boomerang.

Well bite the bullet I did and bought this aircraft even though brass is tight, and I can report that
it is one of the best so far, easy to load and great to fly.

Welldone to the developers:ernae::ernae::applause:
