Calling AI Gurus

Jagdflieger

Jr. Admin
I would like to make some AI traffic around where I live and eventually world-wide in the areas that I like to fly in. I've looked at the tutorials a couple of times, but they leave me a bit confused and frustrated.

Would any of you that understand the process be willing to walk me through the process step by step off line via E-mails? I'm pretty sure that I have the programs needed, but I can always mix and match to what works all around.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice here...kick off with software required.
My reference for all things AI is World of AI

ot only for their many excellent packages, but as a general AI resource.

nd pick up Traffic Tools and AFCAD2.21 for starters.
Also get ACA2005 for later use when you need to figure out why your AI isn't working.
These 3 programs are worth getting to know properly.
Especially the TTools readme, will explain exactly what makes an AI plane do what it does.

The main program you need is TTools. I started with a small, simple traffic file, then modified it until I could get different aircraft to work and fly to different airports. Takes some time to get used to.
Also, certain aircraft will only work at certain airports. The airport needs to have a parking spot for that aircraft. You can modify the airport with AFCAD.

The TTools readme is very clear and well written, most read-me's for programs like this leave me scratching my head and looking elsewhere for advice, but a quick look through this one should get you started.
good luck, cheers ian

I'm with Jagdflieger! I'd like to have some more interesting ai in my sim, too, but I find even the idea of trying to figure out TTools and AFCAD a little bit (or a lot) daunting. Maybe I just need to bite the ai bullet and get to it.

I'm still trying to find the book "AI for Dummies" :icon_lol:

Learning how to do AI is on my list of things to do ....... eventually.

Pete.

The best program I've found for setting up AI traffic is yRoute from Spacejock. And the price is right, free or you can donate to the author (I did). You'll still need Lee Swordy's Travel Tools to decompile and compile the AI traffic .bgl file, but yRoute makes working the decompiled files easy to work with.

yRoute is "AI for Dummies".

I concur with Traffic Tools, AFCAD and yRoute as the essential software.

The help files that come with Traffic Tools and AFCAD are comprehensive and not at all difficult to understand. If you sit down and read them, you'll soon know just about all there is to know about AI.

There's a lot there and at first it looks intimidating, but it's easy enough when you take it one step at a time.

The intense pressure of time, which has just about forced me out of this hobby, prevents me from offering a comprehensive walk-through, but I'd be happy to answer specific questions if you run into anything that seems confusing. Send me a PM the first time, and when I get back to you I'll include my main e-address. But I'll bet that if you sit down and peruse the TT and AFCAD help files you won't have many questions.

Take the easy way.

Gentlemen, there is an easier way to get you're skies full of traffic.

And you'll be seeing your choices of traffic aircraft exactly when and where you want them.

TTools as mentioned above is a fundamental prerequisite. You must get it, install it, but DONT use it!

Why? Because:

1. Unless you know exactly what you're doing, you'll simply spend too much valuable time messing around till you finally manage to get something remotely resembling traffic to appear. Then of course, you'll sit among the 'enlightened'!
But only then!

2. Some kind developer has, and is continually improving an excellent freeware program; AIFP2 (AI Flight Planner) by
Don Grovestine.

This very well thought out program allows you to work superfast, precisely and safely for all your traffic work. Dont be fooled by the name, its not just a planner, but does everything. And as a good program should, it'll warn you when doing things wrong.

So why get TTools? Because AI Flight Planner accesses it automatically on your behalf to produce your traffic files!

So what do YOU do for successful traffic?
Well, providing you accept the obligation and READ and UNDERSTAND the very comprehensive manual before starting...simply enjoy creating traffic.
But you MUST at least fulfill this obligation just to aquaint yourself with basic traffic jargon and parameters.

This Dodo here was placing traffic within 2 hours of installation and watching his airports spring to life.

Thanks for all the great responses!

I think I'll spend some time with the Airport Enhancer tonight and see what I can do.

Astoroth, one question. I couldn't find a readme or instruction document with the program. Will I need to have an AFCAD file for the smaller airports that MS doesn't have AI programmed into?

As long as the airport has parking spaces, it will work. If there are no parking spaces, then yes, an afcad will be needed that adds parking to it.
