can't find b-24d_liberator in the library

unit_type.2]
type_id=3839
unit_family=4
name=F4F-4 Wildcat VMF 223

There is a '[' missing, you should read '[unit_type.2]'.

Maybe it was forgotten when you copied/pasted to your post, but if it is missing in your mission file this could be the problem.

Highpockets,

If you only have 88 planes, then it could be something else. How many ships do you have in that sim?

Given your symptoms, it smells more like a "failure to initialize the databases" error, since these issues are only in free flight and quick combat. In order to fix that, you need to do three things before you fire up the sim...

1) Delete all the filelist.dat files.

2) Delete all the .cdp files.

3) Replace your quick combat file (in the QUICKCOM folder, extension .qcb) with a backup.

I did't get all the copy and paste.

I did the file cleanout but will do the QC recommendations. I am going to also check my ship files.
Hunkering down now for Tropical Storm Patricia's 8-12 inches of rain here in the Houston area.
Thanks to all the responses. :applause: I will respond after I have done more sleuthing.

...folder like this B24D_LIBERATOR

****

the aircraft.cfg shold look like this...

[fltsim.0]
title=B-24D Liberator
sim=B24D_Liberator

model=
panel=
sound=
texture=

Model.cfg and .mdl name should be the same as the folder... B24D_Liberator

So should the DP and airfile. This is for the stock and OH B24s only.

OK, this is the one that i'm puzzled by, because this is the exact setup i have and it works fine. Sounds to me like you may need to rebuild corrupted index databases, if you have what BH suggested above with no-joy.

Don't do a new install, just give the sim an opportunity to recover itself by auto-rebuilding the index files. Delete the following from the main CFS2 directory:

AIRWAY_INDEX
ICAO_INDEX
INDEX_FILE
LAT_INDEX
STR_INDEX
WAYPOINT_INDEX

Restart and let the rebuilding process complete.

Highpockets,

What does your error.txt in your main CFS2 folder say?

Also, what does the sound.cfg say in your B-24 sound folder?

Most of the time if I get your error message it is due to the sound config file being aliased to a sound file that is not correct.

OR

There is a difference in what a mission or campaign mission is calling for and what is in my Aircraft folder.

I LIKE Morton's utility for finding just this type of problem.
It lists in red letters any missing aircraft or ships in all missions and campaigns.
Makes it very easy to correct things.

HP..........

...are you also having trouble with Talons' F4F-4 VMF223? If you copied it directly from the USMC Aces you did copy it to a F4F? I ask because the one in Talons (RIP) campaign is only dp, config and texture updates.
In line with what DD posted, Mortons utility wil grey out the aircraft that have problems. Run it and see what pops!

Guys
I tried ALL the suggestions and nothing worked. What I did do is kind of a reinstall by copying and pasteing everything into a fresh install. (Don't freak out on me!). It still does not find the b-24, but when I close it out and it goes to ctd, I go to the task manager, select "switch to" and it takes me to the screen where I can select missions.
so far I have been able to fly in each of the series (not tested all missions yet), Papau N.G., Coral Sea Task Force, Bismarck Sea, RAAF Defense of Austrailia, and USMC Aces! Still no Q/C or Free Flight and only 89 planes. Maybe I should eliminate some of them. I will contiune to explore the issue as I have time. It certainly is a mystery to me. :dizzy:

Highpockets,
Did you update your Quick Combat file with all of your add-on/modified aircraft?

If so, did you do it with Jonesoft or MK's utility? If with Morton's you will need to open the QCB file with notepad and eliminate all of the open space between the top and the first aircraft.
Don't ask me why it makes all that open space, 'cause I don't know the answer.
What I do know is that if you don't delete all of the open space and bring the first entry to the top, it will CTD all of the time.
