Been gone from CFS3 for awhile and I had muti installs with BoB, FP, Korean Skies, PTO, Med.. I have tried every thing just short of shooting the computer. I have read the instruction, but still can't get it to work. I'm about as dumd as a box of rocks right now, so any gramar school way of explaining this to me will be nice......:salute::salute::salute::USA-flag:

MultiCFS3

John Rod 1024. Are you using the "MultiCFS3" to set up a second CFS3?

An example is that I have set up a second CFS 3.0 called CFS MOD.

The new name has to have the same number of characters as the original. Be careful and keep the same spacing.

If so. Check "hairyspin" posts. He has an excellent one on how to install second CFS3.

Thanks for quick reply. Whats happening is when I open MultiCFS3 in the copy of CFS3 , I get this at the top " MDL Patcher" instead of it saying " CFS3 version 3.1 found ". I believe my problem is this MDL Patcher and I have no clue what that is or how to fix it. Any help to this problem I have would be wonderful. Thanks Again

What is happening is MultiCFS3 cannot find a copy of CFS3 in the directory you've saved it in. :blind:

To summarise what's in the ETO Installation guide:-
  1. Copy entire CFS3 directory, with subdirectories, to desired location and give new CFS3 directory a suitable name
  2. Save MultiCFS3 in this new directory
  3. Run MultiCFS3, supply new directory name
  4. Job done.
Hope this helps, but you'll find more details and screenshots in the ETO Installation guide.

Thank you Hairyspin for reply. Here is what I did for copy of CFS3....... Went to C:\Program Files\Micosoft Games .... and that is where my install of "Combat Flight Simulator 3 " is ... and then I made a copy of "Combat Flight Simulator 3 " and came out with a copy next to it, that the folder name is " Copy of Combat flight Simulator 3 ". I then copied MutiCFS3 to the copied folder of Combat Flight Simulator 3 and when I run MultiCFS3 , I get "MDL Patcher" in the top of the dialog box instead of it saying " CFS3 version 3.1 found ". Can you tell me what I did wrong ??????? Thanks

Nothing that I can see. Does the original CFS3 run properly? And does MultiCFS3 appear in the new Copy of Combat Flight Simulator 3 folder?

Hey Hairyspin, Thanks for quick reply. Yes CFS3 works properly and MultiCFS3 does show up in the Copy of Combat Flight Simulator 3. What I do is after I install the game, I install the 2 downloads to make it 3.1 and run the game and all works fine. I then make a copy of CFS3 and install MultiCFS3 and when I run the MultiCFS3 that is only in the copy , that is when I notice that at the top of the dialog box for MultiCFS3 I get " MDL Patcher ". What I notice in the intallation instructions for ETO , if you look at the picture of the 2 dialog boxes for MultiCFS3 , you will see that at the top of the dialog boxes it reads " CFS3 version 3.1 found ". Do you happen to know what a " MDL Patcher " is ????? Sorry for being a pain on this , but for the life of me I just can't figure out what the problem is or what in the hell is this MDL Patcher. What really blows my mind is that I have used this MultiCFS3 install at least 2 dozen times in the past, because I had a seperate install for every add on for CFS3. I hope that you or someone may be able to help and once again Thanks for your replys. :kilroy::kilroy::kilroy:

MDL Patcher is in effect the error message from MultiCFS3 - it hasn't found a copy of CFS3.exe in the same folder as itself. If you ignore this and enter a folder name anyway, you'll get an error message that the program couldn't modify the file.

I can think of two main reasons for this
  1. MultiCFS3.exe is not in the correct folder - should be ...Microsoft Games\New CFS3 Folder. The program is looking for CFS3.exe and cannot find it.
  2. CFS3.exe has been renamed. I can think of a couple of reasons to do this, like multiplayer issues with Vista or Win7, but you ought to keep a 'plain' copy too. Or you might in fact be using the File Which Must Not be Named - the no-CD patch - in which case I cannot comment further.
I ran a trial of this again tonight; making a copy of the CFS3 directory, downloading MultiCFS3 afresh from Martin Wright's site and running it from the new CFS3 directory and it did the job without fuss.

Somewhat puzzled! :isadizzy:

Could the copy name be too longer?

According to your post. You named the second copy of CFS3 as "Copy of Combat Flight Simulator 3."

You then copied the MultiCFS3 from your original CFS3 to the copy. The MultiCFS3 will only accept a name change with the same number of characters as the original.

Am I correct "hairyspin"

The original name is "Combat Flight Simulator 3.0" and my copy is "Combat Flight Simulator MOD." Same spacing and characters.

Does this help at all?

Yes and no. The second copy name of Copy of Combat Flight Simulator 3 is what you get by just doing a copy (Cntrl-C) and paste (Cntrl-V) within the Microsoft Games folder. The name entered into MultiCFS3 is the name of the folders in My Documents and Application Data tied to the second copy of CFS3. These folders are created when the CFS3 copy is run for the first time after using MultiCFS3.

MultiCFS3 won't allow you to enter a too-long name and will truncate it if necessary.
