I have reformatted C drive and reinstalled cfs3. I do have the drive split, with cfs3 stuff on it. Not an install tho. Now with a reformat and a clean cfs3 instal on C drive the 3.1 update stops half way thru with this message ' old file not found. new file with same name found . update not done as files do not match " ..................... I cant for the life of me sort it out , What can be done .... Anyone??? :ernae:

Hi,

Are you using the original CDs from Microsoft or a repacked third party version?. I am asking because some of the third party ones have some thing called a "no CD" patch included . This allows you to run the game without the CD in the drive. However if you have it you cannot install the updates as it scans for changes to the original program.

Hmmm , I am not using the original disc's I had but a new one bought from a store that is a dvd and everthing is installed in one go. Do you think that is the problem . It seems" ridgy didge". ( genuine) OOH ! I noticed Ubisoft on the case??? Maybe you do have a point that its 3rd party, very interesting:pop4:

:kilroy:Ithump, does the case say something about CFS3 3.1? I had heard that the DVD versions by Ubisoft had the 3.1 update in them already. All you would need then is the 3.1a Update from M$. You may also rest assured that it does not have the ummentionable item that was already mentioned. That is a no-no around here.:d

No GRISSLY50 it doesnt, but I'm starting to think that something is amiss with this ubisoft version, Ill try to find my (very old) original 2 disc's. I will not rest until cfs3 is restored. My friend and I did missions together years ago and we want to try it all again as it was a great experience. Thankyou for your input , my friend , very greatly appreciated :ernae:

I'm using the ubisoft version but a 2 cd set, and all is normal, but Ive seen in the past folks getting confused in the order the 3.1, and 3.1a are installed. I think the 3.1a is at the top and is mistaken for the first update to install...just something to watch closely and be aware of.Hope this helps.

I don't think there is anything unmentionable about the no CD crack. If he has third party disks like I mentioned, and by God he does, and it's been bundled it will stop you from updating to 3.1 and 3.1a plain an simple. It has to be mentioned for trouble shooting purposes

Besides, this game is getting harder to find by the day now. What used to be found on store shelves every where is now limited for the most part to being bought on line. Sad fact is with new operating systems not supporting legacy software, soon enough you won't be able to buy it at all. I personally don't have any issue with a legit owner using it to preserve his install disks.
