Captain Sim Products in Vista

I was thinking of buying the Captain Sim F-104 and Yak-3, just wondering two things. 1.) Does anyone have these products and what are they like, and 2.) are the products compatible in windows vista?.

Both models are excellent, and work fine on my Vista machine (in FS2004 only).

RL,

I have both, but being a newby to vista have only tried the Yak, she's a beauty IMHO. No 2D panel though, the VC is sweet though, can't remember if it's fully functional though (ie. click-able) Still rebuilding after an HD failure.

The F104 IMHO is also very nice (under XP) but I've heard many tout the Cloud9 version as the best, but that's just what I've heard, can't confirm.

PS. I didn't install the Yak in Vista, just transfered my existing XP install across, so cannot comment on installer compatibility, not entirely sure if I wanna test that, lol.

The CS F-104 works fine under Vista/FS9.
It also ports well to Vista/FSX.

I should also ask, where did you guys buy them from, right from the Captain Sim website, or another website? I know they also sell both at fspilotshop as well as simmarket.

Thanks.

I have all the CS addons, I started out buying them from SimMarket, but moved to the source as I now usually try to stick to that, support is usually better and it helps support the developers. Some have had troubles with CS though, I'm not one of them so can't comment (I've never had to reinstall any of them though as I backed them up to zips)

Personal experience of buying from CS:
The second-worst online purchase experience ever.
They have my money, but I am unable to activate the product.
No amount of pleading produced anything like useful support.
I even pursued this with Paypal.
Nada.

I am happy to email you their aircraft files and "activation" process if you wish to have a go.

I recently switched to a Vista PC from XP. Re-installing the C-130 went without a hitch, but the 707 causes false positives in the anti-virus - and if you remove the .exe files indicated the textures over the wings go to pot.

The F104 won't re-install due to an error message that I don't immediately recall. The advice on the website is to get in touch for an off-line code - and since then I've had no response.

So one out of three isn't much of a success rate. All five Eaglesoft and Dreamfleet re-installations went without a hitch. Luckily the 707 and the F104 were bought in sales so not such a loss, but I'm unimpressed by the level of (non) service.

I wonder if the 707 panel will work with the HJG freeware 707s? And there's that Drakken that I always meant to get round to getting to grips with.

Freeware rules OK. :kilroy:

My new Comp shipped with Mcafee Security, it ripped out some files from my zipped up archives of the 707, IIRC the ACE tweak app. That annoyed me enough to go back to Norton and bin McAfee, and all is well again. Norton hasn't had a problem with any of the files on my old XP or my new rig.

I hope I never have to re-install any of them, it does worry me somewhat. If McAfee has ruined my zip files I'll be mighty miffed as I'd have to run the installers next time :(

I bought the CS "Legendary F104" some time ago directly from CS and the purchase process was painless. I did have difficulty with their online activation process, something I think is pretty common, and was given an off line activation key and instructions by their tech support that worked perfectly. The turn around time on support e-mails was pretty uniformly around 24 hours, which was fine with me, particularly considering our mutual geographic locations and the fact that I am not presuming English to be the first language of the people I was corresponding with.

I have never had to reinstall so can't speak to that yet. The aircraft is a rewarding handful to fly. I was on the fence as to whether I should go CS or Cloud9 and in the end went with the money when CS fielded a sale.

At the risk of going off topic, I put up a video on YouTube of the CS F104 wearing an RCAF repaint I did for it. Anybody interested can view it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dByPVAbLd50
