Carenado C185 Bush

SOH-CM-2025
I know this is an old plane but I am trying to find a patch or config change that will let the plane hydroplane on the tundra tires, like the A2A cub. I find lots of places that say it should be able to be done but no where to get the fix to do it. Anyone here have that plane and maybe in the past applied some patch to make it able to hydroplane?

Thanks,

Dave

have you checked Carenado's website?....you check in with your user name and password..and you can find updates for many of their aircfart

Patch? :kilroy:

It was expansion (payware) for C185.

Actually not really an expansion but two separate packages... the normal C185 (wheels) and the bush C185 (floats, tundra wheels).
You don't need the normal c185 for the bush one.

Yes I have been to Carenado and there is talk but not specific info. Also Got Bush talks about this ability but the person there has lost the files that he had created to allow this. I was hoping someone had the info and would be able to post it as the plane is fun to fly and really has it's own niche to fill. It would be nice if this was able to be implemented without complete updates to the model files.

Thanks,

Dave

I used the unofficial mods that were done by Bernt Stolle and I've really enjoyed the 185 ever since. The name of the file is "ultimate_185" and you can get it at fly away simulations or Bushpounders, based on a quick search. Maybe it's here at SOH as well, but I'm not sure.

Go to the Carenado website, on the homepage, check updates.
There are a couple of updates for the C-185.

There was a South African team flying T-6's who did that in formation on tires that fit in the wheel wells. The key word is 'skill'.

Thanks, I have Bernt Stolle's updates, they make a big difference.

olderndirt, have you been able to hydroplane with the C185? I can easily do it with the Cub but not with the C185 regardless of how careful I am. As soon as the tires touch the water at any forward speed or vertical speed, Splash.

All you need to do is go into the contact points of the aircraft cfg. find the main gear tires entry (Knowledge of how the contacts work and what number does what) and copy them as a new contact point. change them to float points and move them up a bit so you don't get sparks on pavement (about half the distance between the tread and hub should do it. The tires will submerge a bit but it will "float". I did the same with my old FS 9 "Bush" Super pacer.

I have tried this and it still splashes. One note is that my crash tolerance is set to full right. This works fine for the A2A but not for any other plane. There must be something else besides the float contacts to make it work. I am hesitant to move the crash tolerance as it seem like cheating. If I move it to 50% it does not seem to splash but also does not crash when it should either.

Thanks,

Dave

That's not cheating. Almost every addon requires to have the crash detection disabled to allow e.g. belly landings with the retracted landing gear.
If you simply 'bounce' if you crash or fly again one second after a 'real' crash doesn't make too much difference IMO.
As someone else said: I don't need the crash message, I know when I've crashed ;)

well - thats true - but for whatever reason, I cant stand to see the plane bounce either...to me it is worse than the dumb green 'crash' banner...

I know realistic damage modeling requires more versions (damaged) of each flyable model and thus more work to develop - and thats why we have what we have in FSX...but it would be so much better to have hard landing damage, and belly landings available with crash detection 'on' as part of the simulation. I figure - if it could be done with the most basic auto racing simulations at the same time period as FSX development, then why isn't it in FSX?

a tire blowout, a main gear fold up or break off, a tail wheel snap off - a wing tip ding or shear off, or crumple in a ground loop, etc...not a lot to ask for IMO
