As you all know from back in the A3B Skywarrior Thread, I ended it with the Piasecki HUP-2 Retriever Detatchment 37 on USS Roosevelt, CVA-42 in the Med'. It all started with the KA-3B of VAH-11. As I hunted for photos of the Roosevelt I kept coming across more and more interesting aircraft in the air group and decided to find them (what ones I did not already have or own (payware) and do a repaint for each one. I spent the entire afternoon until Thansgiving Dinner at 5PM working on it. The first one is VA-172 on Dino's A4E-2 Skyhawk. He has a very complete albeit complex paintkit that I used for this as well as custom artwork for all except the jet intakes and the national insignias. Here is it at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA in Prepar3D V4.5 from the download at AVSIM.VA172-306.jpg

Worked on this Saturday and Sunday and I am pleased with the way it turned out. Here is a screenshot of the finished product. This is IndiaFoxEcho's A4E Skyhawk created from his paintkit like VA-172 above.

This is the F3D Skyray from Virtavia in Prepar3D V4.5 at KVQQ NAS Cecil Field in 1960. The Squadaron is VMF-114 and the repaint was created from photos online. The paintkit though nicely layered in PSD for Photoshop was a few things I would have done differently but all in all I like the result. Here is a screenshot on the runway.

You meant F4D, I'm sure -
Too many numbers and letters made my head fuzzy...LOL! Fingers and keyboard don't always jive. Thank you again for input as usual. Never any offense taken. I wish that Phil or whoever created the paint kit for it would have isolated the red jet intakes on a separate layer like Dino did for the Skyhawk because I still don't have the DANGER arrows where they belong and they may never get there. He didn't put any warnings on them at all and that didn't look right. I have positioned and repositioned them beside custom artwork because they are not used like that any more so sadly no clipart to download. I had to make them by hand and they look nice but trying to get them where they belong and level has been a nightmare. Ok no more venting.

just spent the last hour trying to get the DANGER onto the jet intakes and it is a hopeless cause so now I know why thre painter left them red with no marking. I am going to do the same thing. It IS what it IS! Just for my own satisfaction, I Googled Skyray repaints and came up with a list of them made by the Alphasim team of painters and NONE of them has the DANGER on the jet intake red bands so I guess they couldn't get it to work either on this GMAX or FSDS model. Now I don't feel so bad and am moving onto the F8U Crusaders VF-11, VF-14 and VFP-62 Det. That'll keep me out of trouble for another few days. This whole package of repaints will be packed into one download and in the Resources when it is all done with a detailed README including what aircraft I used and if freeware, the download links. As with each of the completed squadrons, I will post a screenshot of each of the three F8U squadron aircraft. The model is the freeware Virtavia F8U Crusader Rikoooo package which installs into Prepar3D V4.5 perfectly. Moving onward with the project. A good night to all and to all a good night.

Here is the next aircraft in CVG-1: an F-8 Crusader of VF-11 from photos. It is the RFN Crusader repainted with their really great paint kit. Every stencil is on every location where it should be and it is elaborately layered in psd's for Photoshop. The VC is phenominal with working radar and I just got the Tacpack for Prepar3D V4.5 and it is setup for it. Really a joy to work on. I will be doing VFP-62 Det 37 the F8P model of which is included in the package. Maybe Saturday if I get the time to do it or else next week.VF-11 F-8U 1960.jpg

After working all weekend on this, here is the next member of CVG-1 in 1960, an F8U-1P from VFP-62 Detachment 37 embarked aboard USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, CVA-42 in the Mediterranean like the other squadrons above. The actual model is not perfect because although I was able in MDCx to remove all the armament, I was not able to remove the refueling probe bulge with out destroying the forward part of the left fuselage so I just left it. My friend edakridge said that back when he and the FSX At War team were deveoping Vietnam that they used the RFN Crusader which this is for the combat aircraft and the Alphasim F-8E for the F8U-1P because the sides are flat. I will probably do that because I just found the Don "fxsttcb" Bodenstedt updated version for it and the Rikoo P3D V4 to merge together.

Only one squadron left and it's a surprise and a different aircraft. We'll see if I can finish the air group up tomorrow. The "whistle just blew and it's yabba dabba doo time". LOL!

Unfortunately, that is all I am able to repaint for CVG-1. The final VF-14 Aircraft was going to be the McDonnell F3H Demon which said it was for FSX but even though I tried to convert 3 different so-called "FSX" versions, they were just port-overs of the FS9 and were not able to be successfully converted into P3D without distorted parts and NO VC. That included the Virtavia F3H Demon still payware at some etailers which says FS2004/FSX which I am sure will do the same thing when trying to update to P3D. They may have been nice in FS9 but those days are long gone. No one else made a Demon that was able to be used in Prepar3D V4.5. I'm glad that you all enjoyed the repaints. I am going to pack up a bundle of the repaints I have done and add them to the Resources sometime this week.

Is it in the Resources or since it's freeware can you pack it up and send the P3D version to me please? I am suree that Phil would not mind. I will repaint it with the completed texture and put that in the package. I discovered yesterday when I went to pack them all for the Resources here that I forgot to do VA-15's Skyraider on Piglet's converted A-1H.

Worked on creating a paintkit from one of the textures because Piglet's paintkit doesn't have enough layers and none of the colors or decals on it. It's too simplistic IMO. I will continue more on it tomorrow to finish VA-15 for CVG-1. Then it will be ready to add to Resources. I'm still deciding just how I am going to do that. We'll see.

Here is the A1-H ready for the squadron markings for VA-15 in the paintshop. I will be happy to make this psd available for you if you want to do a different squadron. It is layered but I have no way to get rid of the dirt and weathering without using the paintkit which is either sea camo or all dark gray. A1-H Skyraider ready for painting.png

The A1-H Skyraider repaint for VA-15 is complete. I followed a real photo on the cat on the Roosey in 1960 as a reference. It was nice to do once I got the "paintkit" above to use. Here it is and will be packed with Piglet's Skyraider with the FSX model that works in P3D V4.5 perfectly and according to his readme I can share here at SOH. I hope that you will enjoy it as Tim says to.A1H VA-15 512.jpg

Dropped a line to Phil at Virtavia about the F3H Demon so that I can finish up the air group's repaints. Posting VA-46's A4 now in Resources.
