Carrier Ops

I should know this as I used to enjoy Carrier Ops a lot, but it's been a long time and quite a few HD crashes, Virus attacks, motherboards and processor burned up and so on. . . .so I'm going to get it from the folks who know these things.

If I remember right, the base FS9 has Carriers already in position around the world. . . . .are these landable? Is there anything I need in advance to be able to make active traps and launches (arrcab? I think) Also, what about addons? Is there one in particular that stands above the rest?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Ok, found and downloaded Arrcab25, Carrier2006. . .installed both, configured the scenery files into the Library, ran the FSNav db and restarted FS9, took the FA-37 off the Carrier near Kuwait, flew the pattern and successfully trapped.

Night all!!!:sleep::sleep::sleep:

In FS9 there is one default carrier, USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63). She's located off San Francisco, bearing 237 deg true from the Golden Gate Bridge and 304 deg true from San Francisco International (KSFO). You can land on her, preferably using Rich Hogen's ArrCab or the RCBCO carrier gauges. Rich has a CV package that puts 10-12 decks in typical locations around the world. Paul Clawson has a modern USS Stennis (CV-74), and also USS Lexington (CV-2) and USS Saratoga (CV-3) if you want to do WWII and pre-war. You can place Paul's decks anywhere in the world with a little file editing. There is also a New Zealand (?) supercarrier, HMNZS Waikato.

falcon409 the Carrier2006 is a must IMO. Since you already have it, why not add the Ark Royal

arkroyal.gif
FS2004 Scenery--HMS Ark Royal RO9. The last of Britain's strike carriers brought to FS2004, available parked in four spots: Channel, Mayport, Med, Norway. Model by Phillip Chandler. Textures by Fraser Paterson. Project managed by Ian Kirby.

You will also need a couple of fixes, arkr2.zip and (possibly) the mayport.zip - the installation method is a bit round-about but the instructions are unambiguous.

There's a World Cruise version of the pre-war Lexington, too, and also one for the Langley with a neat little ai Boeing F4B-4 flying circuits. If you get that, then the Boeing and a modded traffic file can be used for Lex or Sara. This MAAM page has US and IJN Coral Sea and Midway fleets with lots of ai, too.

Ok,
Thanks guys, i'll be checking these out when I get back from work this afternoon. I appreciate the information.:applause:

Smoothie,

wrong Ark for the Shars I'm affraid, but there is a taskforce off the falklands with a ski-jump carrier, forget which one though, search for Task Force at Flightsim, 3rd down.
Also look for Portsmouth Highrise by Simon Swallow, includes the same Ark in harbour I think.

:d

righto but no landing on a ship in dock, against FAA regs :D has to be out at sea before getting the aircraft, unless aircraft are added during the re-supply phase then not flown till out at sea :) falklands sounds more my thing, shame theres no payware for Port stanley or MPA:jump:

There used to be a Payware, there's additinal files and patches available, search Falklands over at Flightsim, whilst your there search for Ascension island, some other goodies turn up.

The payware is no longer available as far as I can tell, pity, so I started building my own Ascension instead :d

Falklands scenery is in the Just Flight Harrier Jump Jet addon for CFS1&2 and FS2000/2002, so might work in FS9.

yeah, I've got that too, just never got round to trying it in FS9....really want HMS Sheathbill in the 9...must dig it out and give it a try.

The absolute best WWII carriers are the Coral Sea and Midway sets of American and Japanese Carriers by YANCO. Landable and repleate with many AI planes and times "activities".

Cheers: T.

And Sea Vixens. Both free and payware are available. Mind, the catapult extension makes it accurate only for the Phantom period.

yeah always keep on top of practicing ski jumps, nozzles back, race at the ramp clear it and knock them down a bit to preserve forward momentum and gain a bit of Height, hit 130kts after the jump and slowly start bringing them back
