Carrier Question

Kelly, have a look at this post on another forum, it will probably answer your question better than I can this morning! :icon_lol:

Unfortunately not, Andy. I get the carriers in the scenery ok, but in the pic, it looks like I'm below the deck, either in the water or perhaps a hangar.

If I go to spot plane, I can look at the carrier from all sides, and it appears normal.

The deck is above the water, and somewhere in the back of what's left of my mind is the notion that FS doesn't allow runways to be above the water (i.e., ground). Is that what's happening?

Grasping.

I don't have that package Kelly, so I don't know for sure. I'll try to download it later & check it out.

FS2004 does allow carriers, but this is not an uncommon problem. If the model has not actually been made with a hard deck then you have to 'trick' the sim by using Afcads, flatten files etc. Whenever I add any new scenery, whatever it is, I still make sure to move my flatten files folder to the very top of the list.

Hopefully somebody who really knows what they are talking about will be along soon!! :icon_lol:

Now what have I done?
This is the USS Kennedy from Carriers 2006, and my IRIS FA18a.
I chose the Active Runway.
What's wrong with this picture?

How do I get on deck???
Thanks.
Hmmmm, since it's part of Carriers 2006 I would have to assume that it's got the hardened deck. A few things you can do; Go to slew mode, climb out of the lower deck and then lower yourself onto the main deck. If it's hardened, the aircraft will set down correctly, if you continue to drop below decks while in slew, then the deck isn't hardened and you've got a problem. If, when you go into slew mode you automatically climb to the main deck, then problem solved. . . .I've had it do that to me on a few occasions. Hope this helps.

It looks like you're selecting the carriers flatten location instead of the carrier (facility) as your takeoff location. If the package is installed correctly you should choose the carrier from the location list, the airport ID starts with AC.

It looks like the slew mode is the way to go.

Yes, I did try one of the spots other than Active Runway, didn't work.

My airport selection window looks exactly like the one you show.

I did get the Lexington to work correctly. When it opens, you are on the deck, just not oriented correctly. Got myself positioned with slew, and actually took off in my Corsair without getting wet!

Believe it or not, I had completely forgotten about slew mode, so I am off to try that with the other carriers.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I hate it when I'm stupid, blind, etc.

In mucking about with adding scenery, I managed to DELETE the flatten files.

Put them back, and end of problem.

Thanks for the patience with senior citizens.:kilroy:

Well done Kelly, it's not a Senior moment if you still have the ability to troubleshoot and correct the problem.:salute:
