Carrier trap question...

Hi all...where does the folder go that contains the "Arrestor cables.Dat" file? Is it installed as a scenery file or wjat? I've been poring over all the instructions on the carrier trap installs and can't seem to find it....middle

From the INSTALL.txt that's in my folder...

1) Obtain version 2.83 or later of the popular FSUIPC module from
http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html
FSUIPC is a .dll module installed into the MODULES directory/folder under your FS2002 program directory/folder. It requires no user interaction unless you utilize its advanced features. Installing the .dll file is enough.
IF FSUIPC DOES NOT WORK ON YOUR SYSTEM, THEN ARRESTORCABLES WILL NOT WORK.

2) Create a folder such as
...\Program Files\ArrestorCables\
or
...\FS2002\ArrestorCables\

Make sure the following files are in the ArrCab installation folder:

INSTALL.TXT (this file)
ArrestorCables.exe
ArrestorCables.dat
ArrestorCables.INI
ArrCab25Abacus.txt
Catapult.wav
CableCatch.wav
DamageElectricalSystem.wav
DamageFarExplosion.wav
DamageNearExplosion.wav
DamageRadio.wav
KNHK cables day.jpg
KNHK cables night.jpg

(NOTE: the sound files are played by ArrCab, not by FS, so DO NOT move them to the FS sound folder)

3) Create a convenient shortcut to ArrestorCables.exe.

OK, Got it......what is the shortcut for...me or FS9? And does the shortcut go into the FS9 folder?

Remember you can have more than one data file, and you can select which one you want to load when running Arrcab. For instance, you might want ArrestorCables_jets.dat for current types and Arrestorcables_old dat for flying prewar in Golden Hawaii. If you just deactivate the carriers you don't want in your Addon Scenery, their cable zones will still show up when flying.

For my carrier ops I use the "2004 Carrier Operations Package" by Rob Barendregt and Doug Dawson.

Can be found at FlightSim:

The thing I like most about these is you don't need to launch or setup any extra programs, everything you need is in the gauges themselves. The 'catapult' and 'arrester' gauges can be used by themselves in any aircraft, anyplace. You can use it for simulating JATO in something like a C-130, and arrested landings on land bases (or building roofs). You don't have to use zones if you don't want to, you can catapult or trap anywhere. Since most of the modern carriers for FS include ILS's I don't use the 'meatball' gauge anymore. For GW3 carrier ops you can use the arrester gauge without the catapult.

I use the same package as pfflyers. It's worked great for me for a long time now. Just install to the aircraft panel and you're good to go "catch a wire" anywhere.

Thanks again, Gents. I used to be fairly adept in CFS2 at landing props but landing high power jest on carriers takes some finnesse.....sure is fun tho!!!
