Catalina repaint WIP

UncleTgt

SOH-CM-2025
Trying to put a different paintjob on Crashaz PBY5a.

This one's an early war RAAF cat ... needs a bit of work yet.

:applause:.........you inspired me Uncle

were you plannng either of these ? :kilroy:

(2nd Rescue SQN "Sanfu Snatchers" and the Cat that spotted the Bismark )

:ernae: very nice!

Nope, I was toying with the idea of an RAAF series, maybe a couple of SEAC schemes, that's all.

Got a couple of b/w Qantas cat pics, not good enough to base a paint scheme on. I do like the idea of commemorating the Order of the Double Sunrise flights in some form ... :kilroy:

where's Nagumo?

still working up a series of RAAF skins, meantime I couldn't resist doing a Ceylon '42 skin.

This one is 413 squadron RCAF, but not "that" one - think Sopwith should do that one:jump:

Now all I need is a base at Rathmines. I tried but got nowhere. I have good photos of the original, though!

OK, the Aussie birds are in the queue.

11 Squadron 1942 - camo, with locally applied black undersurfaces.

43 Squadron 1944 - black overall. Aircraft MIA after mining Manila Bay 14 DEC 44

42 Squadron 1945. This aircraft featured in a unique rescue drama.

Capt Otto Lieke & his C-47 crew ditched after running short of fuel. After spending 12 days adrift in a rubber dinghy, they were captured & placed in a Japanese hospital on Jamdena Island. The Japanese then radioed that they could be picked up if sent for. This aircraft, piloted by Group Capt S.Campbell effected the rescue.

btw, Aussie loadouts?

I'm assuming the later Australian cats that did the minelaying used US mines - specifically the 2000lb Mk25, & 1000lb Mk36 mines.

... but the only mine I can find to put in a dp is the British (1500lb)Mk1 mine?

Yep, from about mid 1944 nearly all the ordnance carried by the RAAF in the SW Pacific was American. Thanks Uncle!

OK , I remember in the defence of Australia campaign there was some argument about wether the Aussie P-40s had the red centers in the roundals or not. So for early RAAF Cats when did the red centers disapear?
Beautiful work UncleTgt.

BLONDI:cost1:

The Australian War Memorial research section probably has the answer to that Blondi. I'll look into it.
Is anyone else having trouble with bombs and depth charges which disappear rather than dropping? I've had a look through the Dp but can't find any obvious error. Great looking skins UncleTgt.
