CC-138 Twin Otter livery question

One for the experts on canadian military aviation:

Did the CC-138 Twin Otter ever carried the "silver/white" RCAF livery?

I'd like to do a repaint of the marvellous Dantès/Illanes DHC-6 in that "old" livery. I know the Twin Otters entered RCAF service in 1971 and I wonder if they were painted in the well-known yellow right from the beginning. Of course, there's a whole bunch of pics of yellow Twotters out there, but I was not able to find any in silver/white.

Just imagine how nice this bird should look...

Any hints?
Regards,

Markus.

Thanks, Ranger!

In the meantime, I managed to grab the pic attached.

But trying a first rough draft, I observed some strange "dents" in the model that make the lettering and lining appear a little freaky (note the area around the cargo doors). Not able to fix this.

Too bad - think I'm gonna flush this project... :toilet:

Further to the above, the RCAF [Royal Canadian Air Force] ceased to exist on 1 February 1968. The Canadian Armed Forces [CAF] was created by the 'unification' [amalgamation] of the Canadian army, navy and air force on that date.
The following is a link to a picture and decal sheet for a CC-138 Twin Otter circa 1972.

There are new flight dynamics available over at PAD for their Twotters. Still either a bit over powered (Or not enough drag) but still they fly MUCH better than they did before. And there is a paint kit available.

Oh well, at least you've got a good reference picture to paint up an RCAF CC-123 [DHC-3] Otter if a new one for FS2004/FSX ever comes out!

Marcus,

Now that is a shame; textures are looking really nice too. :kilroy:

Paint

That 'Lightning Bolt' scheme looked good on every aircraft it was painted on.

Yeah - I was playing with the thought to repaint that PZL re-engined Otter in the 'classic' RCAF schme - but that would be just a fictional repaint, and I'm not sure if anyone would roll that baby into his hangar.
btw: Thanks for the correction concerning RCAF/CAF designation - my fault! When doing my earlier repaints on the SF8 Sabres, I had a lot to learn about the differtent Maple Leaf Insignia, Red Ensign positioning and so on. Should have known better...

@ Brian:
Of course there are several PAD Twotters on my ramp - but I liked the detailish Dantès/Illanes rendition even more.
Maybe I should give them another try - we'll see.

@ Milton:
Do you think those 'dents' would be accepted?
Maybe I become a little too nitpicky about this issue...

Hmmm - that PAD bird still is a nice one!
This one is to be finished.

Just merged the airfile and the engine parameters of the Dantès Twotter with the PAD. Now the "turbine turtle" behaves as supposed to...

Cheers,
Markus.

Bill, Can you send my your aircraft cfg changes? Pad otter flies okay but is hard to establish on final due to the engine lag.

Brian

Dont flush the Canadian SAR Twotter please. I'd love to have one to fly around Yellowknife.

If you happen to have the FSX Aerosoft Twotter package, transplanting the flight dynamics from that to the FS9 PAD Twotter makes her fly even better.

Brian

I did the same thing - and was just gettin' ready to mail 'em to you!:kilroy:

Tom,

I'll stand in line for a copy if you do not mind. Busy here with xp47j stuff. Thanks

Don't stop that work!!!:applause:

Mail sent to the acdesign * flightsimonline.com addy Milton!

Allright, Guys!

So this will be a 'double feature' for both the PAD and the Dantès Twotter. Easy work with all that lettering and insignia in stock.

To be continued...

Cheers,
Markus.

Until someone builds a proper, updated model for the stock piston DHC-3 for FS9, I'd happily take a repaint for the PZL in RCAF livery.

The Otter is long overdue for a refresh, IMHO.
