Steeple Morden, Station 122: 4Nm W of Royston, Satellite for nearby Bassingbourn, RAF No. 11 OTU, US 8th AAF 5th Photographic Group, 355th (354 (later Second Scouting force) /357/358 FS) Fighter Group (P47 Thunderbolts, P51 Mustangs). Visited by Maj. Glenn Miller and his AEF band on 9/18/44. Luftwaffe landed one black Ju88 on 2/16/41 (crew captured, equipment sent to RAE Farnborough for evaluation) Now the area is mainly agricultural land with some building remains, very impressive memorial...
