Wendling was the home base of a B-24 named "Jolly Duck". This plane crash-landed near the place where I live here in the Netherlands, near Zoetermeer. One of the crew members, John McCormick, is remembered here as a local hero. While waiting for an opportunity to get back to England, he fought against the Germans with the local resistance and was killed in a firefight. He gave the biggest sacrifice for our freedom.
