cessna 206

Hey CF,

FSX seems to have a built in, hard-wired sound into the actual FSX game/sim engine that is able to create doppler sound effect. FS9 sounds seem to do the same thing as FSX sounds when placing FS9 soundpacks into FSX. I have no idea how they (Aces) were able to do this, but that seems to be how things work.

If you put a FS9 soundpack into FSX and run it, it will have that doppler fade in the front of the plane, and increase moderately as you move back.

I havent tried putting a FSX soundpack into FS9. Theoretically it 'should' work, but I havent tried it. I could be very wrong.

I'd avoid that site like the plague. There's just too much controversy over it. If you want a good 206, this is a great choice:

Not sure but this might be the same bird you referenced in the first post; only this one was in flightsim.com:

FSX Cessna C206T Turbo Stationair v2.2. High Flight Simulations is pleased to introduce the Cessna C206T Turbo Stationair version 2.2 (complete aircraft) by Blue Sky Simulations, Roger Bonne and Guidee Francois-Denis. Version 2.2 has been reworked for FSX SP2/Acceleration and flys like a dream! All textures are rendered in DXT3 format for crisp texturing without sacrificing frame rates. Originally modeled for FS2004, this rendition of the sturdy aircraft has been adapted for FSX. Includes customized panel and sound package by Peter Spanakos. Both an analog and Garmin G1000 glass panel versions have been included. This aircraft has no VC. By Brian C. Selb.

The above aircraft for FSX doesn't have a VC; I'd probably go for this one; IIRC this one still has a VC:

FS2004 Cessna T206H Stationair Turbo. This reflects a brand-new turbocharged Stationair, though unfortunately without the Garmin G1000 avionics that ship with the real plane. Textures are DXT3 with a custom alpha channel and no mip maps. Original by Massimo Grassi and Francois-Denis Guidee. Imported and modified by Dave Athay.

dr. zook, yes that 1st one is the one i am referring to. i am wondering if it can be used in fs9? i used to have it in fsx a long time ago, and i liked it.
now i have the carenado, but i want to put this one in fs9 if it will work.

It may not work in FS9 as its set up specifically for FSX.

It's a great model with nice VC too. I just wondered why the VC wasn't included in the FSX version though. I would'nt have minded the original VC in it, only needs to have FSX gauges in it, thats all.

I took the liberty of downloading the FSX Stationair from Flightsim.com and proceeded to put it in my FS2004. Preliminary results look good. The only hitch in the giddyap was that there were some gauges missing--likely FSX defaults or something; that and the fact there were no instruments in the VC--since I usually fly from the VC that is kind of a dealbreaker. The sound on this bird is downright fantastic however-I'm going to part this one out and appropriate a few gauges(namely that MP/FF gauge), sound and that texture on my FS2004 Stationair. Here's a few screenies to share:

i sure would be interested in those panel fixes.
i think i will at least swap these sounds for the ones the carenado uses.

Don't think this was mentioned yet. There is a fabulous C-206 for FS9 that has a VC panel (cesna206.zip by Massimo Grassi at Flightsim, textures can't be beat either). You can delete the panels from the FSX one and paste in the one from Grassi and everything should work. You will need to edit out the Garmin Panel option in the CFG or just delete that variation.

I bought Carenado's Cessna 206 for $30 US. It is superb. Love the cargo pannier and the engine sounds. Superb.

really? i have it to, and to me it sounds as if it is powered by a weedwacker. in fact, i took the sounds from the freeware 206 that i posted about and put them in place of carenado's sounds. in all other aspects though, i really like it.:applause:

I know what you mean... :kilroy:

In fact, if you look into the sound file, you will find a couple of "bee" files that seem to be doing all this raucus.
They're more like angry hornets, but anyway, I tweaked the sound file a bit and removed the bugs to a more sedate humming ... :icon_lol:

Cheers

can you tell me about what you did? what do you think of the results, etc? i really like the model, the only downer for me is the sound.

Bonjour Cheezyflyer,

As I had mentioned, I removed the two hornets (in and out) that were making a such a fuss at full speed but had to compensate on the "rpm4" sounds because the author had reduced it to put the bee sounds in, in the first place...
I had to tweak the cfg entries a bit and re-worked the wav sound files with "audacity" until I was satisfied with the sounds at all throttle settings.
I also re-worked the starter and startup sounds to my liking as I wasn't too thrilled with the double hicups that the engine was emitting when prompted to start... :kilroy:
I now rely on a mix of Cessna 172 and personal tweaking of the starter + startup wav files to get me going. In fact, I got it so that I just start the motor for the kick of hearing it start and spit out all that oily smoke...:icon_lol:

And I didn't tell you about the engine shutdown... :kilroy:

Now, I have a problem as I no longer fly the plane but just listen to the sound that it makes ... :isadizzy:

Anyway, you must remember that what is music to my hears could be garbage to yours.

Cheers,

Fleurdelys
