~S~ Folks...
I just finished flying with 9 other pilots in our weekly mission at the AAC. I have been wracking my brain to come up with a way to get in touch with those of you out there who might be interested in testing the waters. But first, I thought it might be best to explain just what it is like to be a part of a Virtual Squadron....
My particular group consists of a fine group of gentlemen who live throughout the world. We have members from different parts of the U.S., Canadians, British pilots, and even a fellow from Scandinavia. the one thing that we all share is a love of the game of CFS 1. Despite all of the differences, the main thing is that we have become "family". I know that it sounds a bit drippy...but we know of each others families and civilian lives. When we gather, we discuss our work, our wives and kids, and the things that happen in our daily lives. We celebrate the good things, and give comfort when life throws us a curveball...and occasionally, the game slips in there too!....Family....
We began today's session with what we refer to as "lazy flying"....kind of a chance to get warmed up, if you will. One of us jumped into a target ship and let the others practice strafing runs. As the numbers began to build, he began to fire back...and the fun seemed to grow from there. Before long, we numbered 10 pilots and the game was on...We split into 2 teams...Allied and Axis. Players were given a "theater of operations...the area that would be active during the game....and each set up at our Home bases. The idea was for the Allied team to attack a given target while the Axis flight attempted to locate the incoming aircraft and defend their bases. This continued for almost a 2 hour game...and a week's worth of fun!
After the mission, we all gather to comment on the day's action. "What a great maneuver.....I thought that I had you just until...Where did that come from?". I have never heard a bad word uttered...because at the end, we are all on the same Team.....Family!
Each member brings a unique perspective and set of skills to the group. Some are creative minds and builders of the game...some are organizers who keep things running smoothly...some are planners who work out the missions...and some are just plain outstanding pilots who are willing to teach others their skills.....Family....
We have "Rules of Conduct" that address any problems in a fair manner and we attempt to keep the playing field level for all (i.e. No mods so that someone would have an unfair advantage). We treat each other with respect and courtesy. Our group has always put personal life ahead of everything else...a family gathering...a vacation....work....or whatever....then FUN!
It has worked well for our group over the years. We have always had an "open door" policy...just come and play has always been our way.
My X.O. has suggested the use of the SOH Flight Center to post our weekly games in the hope that we might reach some pilots who are looking to participate. He pointed out that maybe it is a bit overwhelming to get setup with TeamSpeak and all...That's why I have an X.O.....he sees things more clearly than I sometimes. Beginning next week, we will post an IP on the site for our weekly mission. I hope that some of you may stop in and become part of....yeah, that's right...the family.....
