CFS 3 ETO aircraft B17 with contrails ?

Hello Fighters,

in CFS 3 ETO 1.4 there are in the aircraft folder B17_contrail. How can I manage to see the B17 with contrails. Pat Pattle told me that there perhaps special missions. I have also seen a screenshot of ETO with contrails behind some B17!

Or is there a special key? What I have to do?

I would be very grateful for your advice.

...Have you tried taking one of the ETO heavies up to around angels 20 -ish? At low altitude you should only see air at the wingtips with high speed or overly sudden changes in your plane's attitude. Actually, I seem to recall contrails on a variety of aircraft given sufficient altitude and speed. Not sure tho'... good luck :engel016:
 
this came up oh so many years ago.....there's a thread (somewhere) about contrails...it's an .xdp effect add that's perfectly simple, including speed/altitude parameters.... but........I'm sorry....I've no recollection what the thread was....someone more punched in than I will have it here and post it to you. The effect is great but I recall there was an fps hit for the candy.......good luck!!!
 
What you have to do is put the blue text in the effects area of the aircraft xpd you want the con-trails in. Then put the red text in your effects.xml file and you will have contrails. You will notice that it is set to occur at a certain speed so you don't get the effects during take off. That would look strange.

Should emphasize what GAW said, you take a good hit on FPS with older PC's. I would not put this on an armada of bombers or things will get real slow and jerky.

Clive that was my first question when someone first created these because I didn't want to see contrails at low altitudes where it really doesn't occur. I still think it might be possible with some more work but I gave up trying to figure it out.

There are min & max altidude type parameters in various cfs3 files, I've tried adding them to the contrails entries but with no luck. Perhaps they can be added to the effects.xml entries?
 
Funny that such a great sim engine like CFS3 would not be able to handle altitude as a parameter for aircraft effects. Pat, go ahead and look into the effects file and see is anything looks feasible.
 
Wait a minute, how about looking into attatching an effect to the mixture settings required by the engines. Trouble is we need something to sustain the emitter and not just a one time event like a startup smoke or impact smoke. I guess this was all gone through before.

We have contrail_B17 !!

Where can I see this aircrafts. Is there a mission? And which part of this mission ?
I told you I have seen a screenshot of ETO with B17 contrails near the aircraft of the player.

Airfighter - these are the entries from the contrail B17. To put them into a 'normal' B17 paste these lines into the aircraft xdp file underneath the other effects.

I added contrails to a P-38 I did last year. I never found a way to make them altitude based, and could only trigger them by velocity.
