Description: CFS1 Army Air Corps Stearman PT-13B
----------------------------------------------
1940 Boeing Stearman-75 Biplane Trainer in metalic Grey U.S. Army Corps livery. Due to 220-225 Hp engine shortages, wartime production required 255 units delivered to the Army Air Corps with 280 Hp Lycoming R680-11 radial engine, and designated as PT-13B, although officially the engine was certified with 225 Hp. Top speed was 135 mph compared to the 124 mph of the normally motorized Stearmans. Because of their greater power, these Stearmans were used for Basic Training, not Primary Training.
The Boeing Stearman-75 was designed in 1934, and over 8500 Units were built. Thousands of pilots learnt to fly in this biplane, which was reputed as temperamental and quirky on the ground but stable in flight, as well as being capable of some impressive acrobatics. More powerful armed version were exported to South America and Africa.
There are still hundreds flying upto the present day, often appearing at air-shows.
The unit depicted in this release is No. 721, currently restored and flying in the U.S.A.
Includes SCASM-corrected virtual cockpit view, CFS1 .air file, Dp file, and custom panel with mostly stock gauges. Detailed, high-quality textures with help of Udo Entenmann.
