Cfs2 GSL limit

Hi,
what is the limit for this file and may it be overcome?
Since i'm planning some extensive scenery and this could be a problem...

Hi Gius,

Each gob (object cell, think of the globe divided into lots of rectangular scenery cells) can only include 4096 objects. Of course a large town might spread across 2 or 3 gobs...

My current cfs2.gsl is 8845kb, I don't know of any hard-coded upper limit, but I can imagine the larger the file, the more opportunity for data corruption, loading errors, extended loading times etc.

Hope this helps.

UncleTgt,

I haven't run into such problems yet either. If I do, I will keep all those informed. :very_drunk:

It works for me

The best way to keep such opportunity for troubles in check is, in my opinion, a multi-theatre install with theatre-dedicated cfs2.gls files.

I have ten theatres and each cfs2.gsl contains exclusively gobs for the gsl sceneries dedicated to each theatre. Among them, my largest cfs2.gsl does not exceed 3Mb. So far I haven't had any trouble, but, to be honest, I haven't installed yet all of the gsl sceneries I am expanding with trees and other details. My ETO cfs2.gsl will definitely become the largest.

I'll blow my horn when any of my cfs2.gsl files will die on me!

Cheers!

Hehehe,
like it can occur in most Wagner's operas....
Thanks all guys,
probably i've simply misunderstood a precedent thread, where the theme was the number of objects limit for a single GSL gob... puff!
Cheers,
Gius
