CFS2 - must-have addons???

Hey folks.
After installing CFS3 and ETO and know also think about reinstalling CFS2 after quiet some time.
Sure CFS2 is out of date but could be still enjoyable,.
But know I would like to know if there are some must-have addons for CFS2 to improve the graphical quality over all.
I mean better textures, clouds, sounds etc.???

Thanks in advance for all advices

CFS2 out of date? Nope, just matured to a nice ripe perfection.

Sounds....check out the CFS2 sound library here...tons of sound packs for planes of many types and nations. Lawdog2360 is a sound guru and has done a lot of sound packs. I, under Lawdog's teaching, have learned to take his sound packs and modify them for even further uses.

Mesh...look no further than the download library and the new mesh set by Rhumbafloppy. There are a lot of downloads involved, but once downloaded and installed into CFS2 (and FS2002, FS2004 and FSX) the world takes on a whole new look. Mountains look like mountains, the Grand Canyon looks like a CANYON and is so much fun to fly through.

Scenery...lots and lots of scenery...but I'm not a big scenery guy..so I will let those who know which is the best chime in on that.

Clouds...there is a great set of clouds over on Simviation.com for FS2000, repclouds3 or something like that. I need to do some digging and find a link for you....those are very nice clouds to add to CFS2. Found them....8bit and 16bit hi res clouds...several options in each resolution......I run the 16bit hi res clouds and do not experience a real hit on frame rates...and my computer is NOT a modern powerhouse computer (P4 3.0gig, 2 gig RAM, 512meg Video card)

Many thanks guys for your help.
Of course I already took a look at the download library but there are some many donwloads for CFS2 that it's hard to find out which one are really good and which are not that good and don't have the reults I want to have.

So I will take a look at your mentioned downloads that evening.

Anymore???

To update the stock planes to a much better standard, and to make the non-flyable stock planes flyable, scroll through the uploads of The B-24 Guy (use the author search box at the bottom of the download page) and grab all of the Overhaul packages. This will demirror the planes so that each side has its own texture, will give improved virtual cockpits to some and will give virtual cockpits to those that did not originally have one. The B-24 Guy did overhaul packages for all the stock CFS2 planes except the Corsair and B-24.

The Corsair was updated by Dbolt (do a seach for him using the author box as well). Dbolt did basically the same thing with the Corsair that The B-24 Guy did with the rest.

Again using the author search box, look under AlphaOldies....lots of nice CFS2 planes there.....most of which I have uploaded panels for, and some of which I have updated.

Anything by Thicko is worth having BIG TIME...wonderful planes. Bismarck13 has a lot of great planes here (also on Simviation.com under William Dickens).

Wolfi has a killer P-26, Nell, and Stuka that are definitely worth downloading.

I could go on and on as there are so many great add-ons to be had for this grand ol sim.

If there is any plane that you specifically want, just ask and someone will point you in the direction of the best available.

Many thanks Obio.
First of all I want to have graphical updates to have a better looking sim.
Then I will think about new planes and stuff.
First thing to achieve is a graphical improvement over all ;-)!

Must be more add-ons to CFS2 than any other PC game I'd think. A lot of people have been modding it for donkeys years....as you say, Where the heck does one start.:mixedsmi:

Many thanks for all your input.
Installed CFS2 10 minutes ago and unfortunately it doesn't want to run correct on my system. All I have is a black screen.
Setting my nVidia drivers to default values let me see the main menues but end in a black screen with a grey map when I start a fly... :-(

First have to find solution for this issue first...

Grisu_HDH there are so many addons available for this CFS2 that you will get dissy trying to collect them. There many different addons of the same Items you would like add to your install. There is a World map through your Mission Builder where can fly any where in the World you would like to fly in.

There are Hundreds of Ships from most Navy that participated in World war two and other Conflicts like WWI,SCW,WW2,Korea plus some for the Modern World available. You can even fly in the Vietnam era with limitations.

It also has over one thousand AC available in this and different Websites dedicated to this Sim. It has many upgrades to its scenery.

No two of us have identical install of CFS2 since there are so many different styles and ways you can fly in this Sim.

For example there several types of Clouds packages available and Ocean texure as well!

Its alway up to you wich one you like better.

This is the most adaptive and additive Sim of them all once you get the hang of it. Sure it has its limitation like all Sims. But for the most time you will find it has a lot more going for it than it limitations.

I recommend you read this post from page one to its last page http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1117604819

Not all its link are working properly but most do. It also has many tips and recommendation on how Maximize you flying through this Sim.

Please start slowly and always keep a back in on a external Hardrive of your CFS2 Install.

If you have any question please come back to this forum and we as a community will help out!

Keep flying and fly with as many planes as possible and as in many Theater as you can fly in WW2. If I where you I would fly in as many Airforces as possible whether Ally or Axis to get better perpective of what was really like to fly in that Era.

Last but not least Welcome to our Community!:ernae:

AND, your countryman Achim27619 has some of the BEST airbases available anywhere. Coupled with Rhumbaflappy's new additional mesh layers, one can almost forget this is a flight simulation and not a real flight.

Hey all.
CFS2 installöed over again and got it to work with nHancer to habe the best possible graphic quality.
Now I start to work through all the links you provided me with...
Lot of work to do I think...:running:

Hi Grisu_HDH,
Which theater would you like to improve the graphics quality? Pacific or Europe?
If it's the Pacific I can help you out via Pen32win's af texture document. :mixedsmi:

When doing the updates, of The B24 guy, I found it is best to pay attention to the update dates. If you download them all (regarding a particular theme) prioritize them by year and date, then install. This is as some update prior updates. Same goes for all the other updates. Otherwise you could inadvertently be reverting to a older update. (does that sentence make sense?:icon_lol:)

Hey folks.
Seem to have bigger problems with CFS2 on my computer than I first thought. I get no more black screens anymore, but I can't start from the runway...
The flight loads, everything seems fine, but I can't start the engine. I press B to release the brakes and than E for engine start.
I get screen message "Engine starts" (or wharever the text in english may say, cause I have a german version) but nothing happens, even when waiting for more than a minute. When I press E again, the message says "Engine start stopped".,
Don't know whats wrong than...
Have a working CFS3 also without any problems... :isadizzy:

Checked that already.
Auto-mixture is enabled...
Any other ideas???
