CFS2 Problem

Hi fellas -- this is my first posting on this forum, though I am a regular at the FS9 forum.
-------------------------------------------------------
I just started CFS2 after approx a year of non-use and was greeted by fractured default aircraft, a black band across the top 1/3 of the cockpit view and jagged triangles instead of scenery.

I re-installed CFS2 but there was no change. Please keep in mind this is the same machine on which I run FS9 flawlessly at high FPS and I've changed nothing for CFS2.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I had this same problem over a year ago with an ATI video card.I just downloaded and installed the lastest drivers for it and all was fine. All other sims ran fine including FS9 with the old drivers.

Hey, Talon! Thanks a bunch!!! A new driver ABSOLUTELY WAS THE FIX. Took me a while to locate the driver because when I Googled RADEON or ATI or HD3850 I kept getting robots that wanted to sell me the driver "for only $29.95". Finally I went back to the GIGABYTE site (they seem to only want to sell mobos) and slowly pored thru it until I found graphics cards. Anyhow, all is well in CFS2 and I nailed 5 Vals on my first test hop. Thanks again! :medals: :icon29:

Hawk, a question: I scour thrift shops for older computer parts, flea markets and the like. We've all heard of Windows, especially the late versions, being "plug and play". I'm using TrainWreck Pro(XP) SP2. It's "plug and play" like my butt chews bubblegum too. So I too go to Google, The Sum Total Of Human Knowledge and search for new drivers for my keyboard/touchpad made by Bedrock Electronics. Page after page are browser hijackers that say :download your driver here for free" and it diver pro. driver mechanic, driver robot, or some other piece of spyware that like may other pieces of software for Windows TrainWreck, don;t work.

Do you have a source(besides Driverguide which is a pain in the a**)for older drivers?

THanks

TonyB... Fortunately I seldom have to go searching for drivers, but when I do, my first source is the hardware mfctr's site. If that fails -- and it often does for very old O/S or hdwr -- I have only used two other sites which I have found to be free of parasites:

www.download.cnet.com and www.majorgeeks.com

For any sort of D/L (not just drivers) I am wary of any site that shows up just occasionally on searches and I will NEVER go to a "torrent" site. Hope this helps.

Thanks Hawk. I'll check Major Geeks, I am over there for games sometimes, I'll check into their driver selection. CNET does not watch their programs with embedded spyware as much as formerly. I got one good piece of good software from them out of about 10: Malwarebytes Antimalware. I also ignore their promotion or a software maker's promotion and stick with the user's reviews, the users are more honest.

Thanks Dirtman. I just went to AMD\support\etc. and yes, the driver(s) are there. Interestingly though, when I first was Googling ATI, it directed me to an AMD site -- which may have been a spoof -- that fed me the same robot that I got when I Googled "ATI".

Gotta be REAAAL careful!

Or:

Yo H52;

Glad things have worked out for ya.

BTW: Around the same time; Intel bought NVidia.

Past this; there is a GREAT app out there made by Uniblue called: "Driverscanner". Payware but $30 is cheap for this. Hit the scan button and it checks all yer drivers & tells you what needs to be updated. Then it will backup the old ones & download & install the newbies.

Simple, easy & fast ... Pretty cool eh??

Are you serious Dustybutt! You paid $30 for a program? This must be good! You are so tight ya squeak when ya walk. I know you wouldn't turn loose of $30 bucks unless it was good. But tell me, did you actually shell out the cash, or are ya just suggesting that someone else do it? Be careful, you know I trust yur sense of computer geekdom. I am going to run the freeware version and see what it says.

Awe Geez ....

Awe Ed, you big dork! ..... I said that's what it costs to buy .... I didn't say I actually bought it .... got mine from a dubious source. (they call it being a "free-tard" in the other forums)

I would guess the free version is only a scan to see what drivers need updating. Check yer email Bro.
