CFS2 Thames river!

To all,

Simonu has created a Thames river for CFS2 which blends seamlessly with Sander's Europe. I am using this for the London docks and the East end in my BoB project. It extends all the way through the city!

This is not painted or laid on top, it is actual coastline and scenery.

He has given me permission to upload it, and I will do so over the weekend.

Wow...

Rami and Sander ~ THANK YOU !

I've been tring to make the original "London.zip" and BoB_Ver 2 scenery look good... with minimal success.

This new mod should be the "icing on the cake" !

sc7500,

It's Simonu's work, actually. :redf: It just fits with Sander's scenery. :d

Now...if someone wanted to create GSL scenery for the London docks....THAT would be icing on my cake.

Hey Ettico...you up for another EuroTarget? :typing:

Blimey Rami, I could tell you stories learnt on me granny's knee about the Isle of Dogs (centre right). But perhaps that should be in another thread?

Collin,

Isle of Dogs, huh?

I knew a couple of girls in college who might have been born there. But I called them something else I'd rather not say. :monkies:

Anyway...:focus:

I've been working on London's Dockland for a couple of months (if you include time it went belly up). With a new Thames I'll have to start all over again:faint:! At least (I presume) the docks all link up to the river...unlike the present settup in the BoB scenery. After a large Scotch I'd love to have a look at Simonu's river.

Oops !!!

My error, Rami - I was THINKING Simon and TYPING Sander !

Hey, it was late and the wine kicked in too soon... :friday:

I've been working on a complete Layout for the London Docks and most of the buildings since Feb - but some of them were underwater after I installed the newest mesh and waterclass!

I'm going to tweak it some more - maybe we need to have a "Best of London" competition...?

LOL !

Here's the deal....you guys make the GSL objects....I'll make sure the Heinkels, Dorniers, and Junkers target them. Horrido!

Rami,

I'm not sure what constitutes the "London docks". Is this the area you have in mind?

What you're looking at is Sander's photoreal Thames River textures, probably taken from Google Earth. I haven't checked to see if the scenery is available at Sander's website. Sander's textures covers the whole Thames area in London, the only problem being a couple of roads out in the water in one area.

Sander's textures would provide a perfect background for GSL layouts, but since Sander's website is not always up, it probably would be better to start building our own Outhouse version of London.

Anyhow, Simonu's work looks good. I could grab a couple of Google Earth screen shots of target areas, fit them in, and put GSL on top of them, like I did with the other Eurotargets. OTOH, custom background textures might not even be necessary for waterfront GSL, since all the water is already in place.

Ettico and others.

Try this site

http://www.portcities.org.uk/london/server/show/ConGallery.43/Londons-docks-past-and-present.html

The biggest docks which were the Royal Docks complex are east of the Isle of Dogs.

for the London Docks group see here-

Some might also care to cast an eye over this site to get a more realistic look at history then the pap that has been fed to allied propaganda.

Thanks for the maps Collin. The larger one really gives me a chance to see where the photos I have "fit in".

Remember though, these are just the docks in London.

There were many others outside London heading east to the estuary, all of which were paid several visits by the Luftwaffe.

Dagenham Dock....Fords, and electrical goods.
Purfleet...............Oil and chemicals
Grays..................Heavy Industrial
Tilbury................Troop, food, ore, etc (plus Pluto)
Corringham...........Oil, Aviation fuel.

And this is just the North shore up to Canvey Island.

South shore had just as many up to the same point.

Allright!!!!!

SLURP! My mouth waters!

Excellent job, Simonu! :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

Will SdC's London landmark GSL buildings still fit with this scenery?

Cheers!

I didn't know SdC did a GSL package for London. How did that get past me??!

Ciao Micheal,

yes, SdC did a GSL London package a couple of years ago. It included photoreal Thames textures and GSL landmarks like the House of Parliament, the Big Ben tower, the London Bridge and so on. He rebuilt the landmarks since he did not like the looks of the usual CFS1 London objects, which are still the only ones available, apart from his.

I do not remember the name of the pack off the top of my head, but as Ettico states above in #13 reply, "Sander's website is not always up", so I do not know if the pack is still available for download. Ettico talks of this pack as well.

Cheers!
