CFS3 Conversions

Hello everybody.

Can anyone explain to me this feature of CFS3? In the original CFS1, the aircraft like the P-51D had the following files: Model, Panel, Sound and texture including various airflies and the like. The CFS3 P-51D has the Sound and various .dds texture files and airfiles , etc. My question is: Is CFS3 more efficient with the current aircraft setup like this over the original Cfs1 aircraft setup? Are the .dds files more efficient to have over bmp files? Anyone can answer if this is so.

I couldn't possibly compare CFS1 with CFS3, my combat sim history doesn't go back that far; but there is certainly little comparison between the two in terms of what the sim can look like.
However .dds files are used because DirectX 9 uses them and CFS3 won't use .bmp textures afaik. CFS3 is just different, but you'd need to ask the original developers why they built CFS3 the way they did.
