Cfs3 eto

Hello all. I just have a few questions about the CFS3 ETO installation package. I have the stock out of the box CFS3 but I never downloaded anything to upgrade it. It works just fine, however I want to know the following:

1. If I install the ETO, will my current stock aircraft and Campaign information be erased? Do you have to re-install anything currently in the game (i.e. Groundcrew files, Beta files, etc.)

2. How much space does it take up on my hard drive? I have approximately 45.9 GB remaining.

3. Do you really need the ETO expansion if everything is working well already?

4. How will the ETO expansion affect my video card performance? Will I need additional upgrades to go along with it or not? Also will it affect frame rates or anything else on my PC negatively?

I hope I'm not asking too much of everyone. I Just want some information is all.

Hi Autothrottle,

1, no it wont hurt your stock install. you actually end up with two CFS3 game on your machine. your stock game and a neww called ETO they are independant of each other.

2 about 6 gig from memory, I'll double check tonight for you.

3 HELL YES. your stock CFS3 has barely scratched the surface of what this game engine can do. ETO will blow yor socks off, and you will never fly stock CFS3 again.

4 I run on a pretty dated laptop, I get average 30FPS and no stutters etc. with slidders up high. its like any new program your not gonna run it on a 10 year old machine but if your machine is around the 2yr old mark you should have no problems at all.

PS get the ETO mate, you dont know what your missing out on.
And if you do decide yo dont like it, simply uninstall it. its free so no money lost trying it.

Patches

Hi Autothrottle

If You already did not do so, before installing ETO or any other of the expansions You can find here around You MUST patch your out-of-the-box CFS3 to v3.1 and then v3.1a (these patches can be found on official MS CFS3 site).

Cheers :ernae: and have always good flying

Patches for CFS3 Install.

:bump: :kilroy:

Hi Guys, Autothrottle,
Just to add something to what's already said here.

I was advised when applying ( installing )these patches from the Micro-Soft Web-Site, to install v3-1 first. Start up CFS3 and run it to the Pilot and P-47 on airfield, then shut game down. Do the same for patch V3-1a, I always do this, (and I re- install CFS3 Std. every 3 months anyway to get rid of dead file accumulations, and other oddities ) And everything runs fine.

ETO---PTO---KoreanSkies--MAW, don't need this doing, as the good builders have provided " Zappers " to let you clean up ( Icons on Desk top ) I do this every time I've played one of these "Add-Ons". And again, all seems to work fine.

CFS3 is also played on-line by a band of enthusiasts and it's great. The Std. CFS3 is used mainly as it's the dog fighting that interests us fella's more than the scenery. Having said that, ETO/PTO/MAW,etc. is really wonderful and Tailwind and others run regular Missions which are very popular (in ETO. )

The Online Games are hosted by Individuals, using their EXT. IP. numbers that you type in the CFS3 Start bit. These are posted up in SOH here as a Sticky. This is done because Micro-Soft closed down their Game match Server about 18 months. ago without telling anyone and would not re-start it up.

So there is far more to do in CFS3 than you ever thought possible, and the direction and choice is yours. Happy Flying. :isadizzy::ernae:

And welcome to SOH and CFS3. ( A Pandora's Box of greatness )

Bill T.

ps:- Just remembered,-------------- Once you have your Clean, New ,copy of CFS3 Std. installed on your hard drive, that is known in SOH as a"Vanilla" clean, copy , install. And if you want to go into on-line games, all players have to have matching copies, otherwise, every time you try to enter a game, "Mis-Matched A/C ( Or something) will block you.

So we keep these "Vanilla" CFS3 games like that and by talking on T/S or Posting in thread, folks can match up their Aircraft to suit. ( Once you've done this once, it's easy. ) Same applies to Add on Games (ETO-etc ). So if you want to modify any games for Your own Computer stand alone play, best to install another Game of choice and keep it separate from the "Vanilla" Installs wanted for On-Line Play.

Folks will always help you via these threads, so keep asking when you are stuck and you will get there .

Hi Bill

I don't run "Zappers" every time before to play any of the CFS3 expansions and I never had problems.
IIRC they are to be used when You install new aircrafts or make some adds to the game....... but I can be wrong.
Can someone of the expansion guru kindly clarify this matter, thanks ?

Cheers :ernae: and have You all good flying

Hi Guys,

deleting bdp files only realy needs to be done if you have changed something in the xdp file of a given plane.

as the bdp file is a shorthand version of the xdp file that the game engine uses for fast access. if you make a change in a planes xdp file and do not delete the bdp file the game will still be reading the older set of information. this is why we delete bdp's.

you dont need to do a complete bdp deletion all that often.

for MP it is recomended that you delete your bdp files before each game, as the online anti cheat function checks all the bdp and xdp files. from what I have experianced the anti cheat function doesnt like bdp files with lots of differant dates.

ie I may have deleted my bdp files on the 1st and jo blogs deleted his on the 2nd and we are flying on the 3rd. the games anti cheat then see's that we have differant dates on our bdp files and sometimes denies access to one or the other players. if we all delete at teh start of the session then the game seems to have no issues with miss-matches.

I'm not sure as yet with the ETO addon. I reinstalled the CFS3 stock game and got the patches, but It seems as if the ETO will take up more of my memory than I have. I'll have to think about it some more. It looks nice also but Im wondering if I really do need it.

Hello,
I have a few questions:
1/ I have ONLY CFS3 installed I have downloaded the ETO 1.20 . so I just install the ETO 1.2?
2/ or do I need to install previous versions before?
3/ in the read it says :"
CFS3 ETO Expansion Cumalative Update 1.20

Note: Be sure to place your CFS3 ETO Expansion Theater in ERA 1 and select Stock Spawn Mode before installing this Update."
What is ERA1 ? Where is it?
What is Stock Spawn mode and how to select?

Thanks in advance

Hello Emile

First of all welcome aboard then, You MUST have a absolutely clean and unmodded version of CFS3 patched to v3.1a then You MUST install ETO v1.0 before installing v1.20 (a v1.01 and a v1.02 exist too but don't take care of them the v1.20 is a cumulative update).
ETO makes available 5 time eras to fly in and different spawn mode hence the advise to run and then turn off ETO v1.0 while it is in era 1 and to chose Stock Spawn Mode before install v1.20.

Hello and thanks for the answer.
I have installed ETO 1 during the installation I received error from b2e.exe
* What is the problem and how to correct? , if needed? see attached screeenshots
* I still do not understand the ERA1 , see the screenshot of my installation
I see NO ERA1.
Thanks in advance

Era 1

Hello Emile

I don't know what the error called by b2e.exe is (in effect I don't even know what b2e.exe is) but I can better explain what ERA 1 is.
Once You will have ETO 1.0 installed, launch the expansion and You will see a dos window pop-up; in this window You will be asked to chose in what era You want to fly, ERA 1 correspond to a specific time frame (approx. from Spanish Civil War to the opening phase of WW2), ERA 2 concerns the Battle of Britain (BoB) and so on and when You chose any of these era the expansion will load a set of files specific for the era You have chosen.
Moreover You will find an icon on your desktop calling for a routine where You can chose the type of spawn you want activate.
What is requested for the install of ETO v1.20 is that before the install You MUST launch ETO chosing ERA 1 and Stock Spawn, You don't have to actually fly, only open and close ETO when it is in ERA 1 and Stock Spawn.

Hoping to have clarify the ERA matter
Cheers :ernae: and have always good flying
