CFS3, Firepower and Just Flight's BOB Add-On: Questions?

trek

Members +
I'm running CFS3 with the Firepower Add-On. I'm thinking of purchasing Just Flight's BOB add-on and giving it a try. Will the BOB add-on run OK with this line-up? Any compatibility problems? BTW, I'm not running any of the complete mods like Med Air War, etc., just terrain mods and the like.

Also, does anyone here have any experience with this add-on and is it any good? I'm well aware that this add-on is dated and the graphics are probably not up to par but my curiosity factor wants to give it a try.

I already own and love BOBII WOV and have just purchased IL-2 COD with better than expected results, but I'd still love to get my BOB fix with CFS3 as well.

Firepower has a new effects.xml file for weapons like the nuke. Firepower effects are quite good. Not sure if BoB has an effects file that might overwrite if BoB was installed second.

Also I suspect BoB has a modified country.xml to get British ground spawns appropriate for the 1940 period. There may be a country swapper in BoB so that shouldn't be a problem.

What I did was install BoB into a "blind" folder so I could see exactly what was contained. I then chose the files to add into the Firepower install. Most of the BoB files will go in without affecting the Firepower stuff. But you may need to decide which files to keep if you have duplicates - eg. the sound.xml might be modified by both installs I don't recall.

In the case of say a duplicate sounds.xml you can use file comparison software (I like Winmerge) and copy over any additional BoB entries so you get one combined sounds.xml for Firepower and BoB.

For things like stars or suneffects, just choose whichever file you prefer (if they are different) after trying each one out.

...if you're on a BoB binge you don't want to miss out on Pat Pattles freeware BoB mod.
IMHO its superior to the payware version in many ways :medals:

Thanks for the responses guys, I've already ordered the add-on and will give it a go when I receive it.
