Autothrottle.......the settings that Flyer01 posted for you to try are made in the configuration utility located in the CFS3 program files, it is located here:
C:/program files/microsoft games/combat flight simulator 3/
(any other versions of CFS3, ie: Firepower, or any expansion packs like ETO or DPC Korea will have their own folder in the microsoft games folder. Each installation has its own configuration utility that needs to be setup )
once you have opened the combat flight simulator 3 folder, scroll down untill you find the file named: cfs3config.exe It will have an icon besdie it that is a target crosshairs with a wrench in the center. double click that to open/run the configuration utility. I have some screenshots that might be helpful....
Just keep in mind that I am using Windows Vista 64 bit so my default programs folder is /program files (x86)?, and I have a little more beef to my hardware than you are configuring for...so you don't neccessarily want to copy all of my settings....try the ones Flyer01 posted for you and see what happens. A couple notes on the config utility: click where it says file or window in the top left corner of the utility to access the page menus and choose the next one. when you are finished, make sure you click file then click exit on the drop down menu to close the utility and save your settings.....if you use the red X to close you will lose your settings and they revert to defaults. Also, when you start CFS3 do not make visual / graphic adjustments in the settings drop down within the game...same results occur, it wipes out your presets here. The only other thing I will say is do not set your hopes too high for great game performance, crisp and sparkling visuals, and decent frame rates with the system you mentioned.....rendering graphics is one of the hardest tasks you can ask of your machine, and it takes a good amount of CPU power+video processor power+system RAM to quickly compute and render 3D images .......512Mb RAM + 64Mb video is going to hit a limit very quickly and all the registry cleaners and application managers in the world will not raise that bar.....the first page of the config utility sets the level of you graphics quality....I suggest you leave it at the default settings of 2s across the board at first....make the other changes you want to try, then play a little. If it is responding good then bump them up to 3s and try it, if its good, try 4s....if it starts to stutter or the display driver blows a gasket...back it down.......another big FPS hit is the resolution you choose to display ....higher resolutions will eat up your system resources fast...so again, start low and try it out...bump it up and try again....when it trips and falls, back it down to the highest resolution that didn't have hiccups or stutters......just play with it and make little adjustments one setting at a time.....and have fun..
Hope it helps you.
Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good flight
