CFS3 Mediterranean Air War

Like to know what is the best way to install MAW into CFS3 and be able to have the USAAF aircraft in it plus be able to have sound in the cockpits and be able to change
the years and locations in the spawn section.
Thank You for any help.

Installing MAW is done with a plain, vanilla CFS3 installation patched to 3.1a and no other additions or mods. MAW was built for the Mediterranean theatre and wasn't developed beyond 1941 period, so doesn't have USAAF aircraft or spawns etc, just as it doesn't have late Spifires, Fw190, rockets or similar. Any such additions have to work around the theatre as it is.

Thanks for the reply hairyspin, I guess I just leave that off then since no USAAF aircraft and just stuck on 1941. To bad it would been fun flying the
B-17F/G in North Africa and Itlay.

HouseHobbit may chime in here, I hope. If memory serves me (?) he did up a series of Ploesti missions with B-24's and there were some Tuskeegee missions as well. I have never reinstalled them after the death and transfiguration of my old machine, but I believe they might be about somewhere. You might rummage in the Warbirds Library for them.

I did a quick look at the library and didn't see them, so HH will pop up I hope.

There is absolutely no reason why US aircraft should not work in MAW - as it copies and adds to the nationalities already present in CFS3, the USA country structure is preserved. Put the aircraft into the aircaft folder, make sure the sound or sound alias is correct, ensure the guns, weapons and pylons are in the correct folders, and off you go. Stock aircraft will already be there, although they may have been deactivated by setting spawns to N in the xdp file, and altering the air file for AI only. That can be dealt with, if it is the case, by copying the xdp and air files from your normal CFS3 install and overwriting the modified ones. Delete the bdp files corresponding to the xdp files you copied over.

To install any ETO or addon aircraft, the procedure is identical. Just make sure you have all the guns, weapons and pylons files in place and that the sound alias is good. Use Notepad to modify sound.cfg and xdp files where needed.

To give you some idea, I have an install of MAW with only WW1 aircraft from OFF...

This is in my WW2 MAW install:

Hi Cheyenne,

once you have a fully installed MAW v1.31 over vanilla CFS3.1a (per Hairyspin's advice), you can start to add more recent aircraft (per ndicki's advice).

There are quite a few MAW skinned and ready aircraft that have been uploaded to SOH, since the last version of MAW was prepared. IIRC the Hurricane IID, and the 40mm version, and the Beaufighter, Fulmar, and other bombers. Some of the "ghost in the machine" series of US fighters out of Siciliy and Italy are there in the SOH library too.

I posted a thread about a campaign I'd made up post-Sicily invasion, where as an allied pilot you can participate in the invasion of Italy, or as a German pilot, you can fight off the Allied invasion of Italy....

MAW Sicily 1943 Campaign

Hi Cheyenne,

I've searched the memory banks (and the SOH warbirds library!) and found that I have not uploaded the 1943 campaign. The problem is getting permissions to use certain aircraft that in my view are important like the Mark 1 Mustang which played a big part. Of course, there are other aircraft available like early P-38s but they are just reskins of the stock J model. Its good to have them but hard to know if they really perform like the earlier models.

If you PM me I can provide more info or files if you like.

I have removed the Ploesti missions, doing a complete rebuilt to update them. The Tuskegee,(MAW) Missions are on SOH..

And you can place ANY American aircraft in MAW, My advanced MAW install have all nations, except those in the Far East installed.
Some you have to adjust the Country name called for in the XDP.
I use Other_Allied_Nations for some and Other_Axis_Nations for others.
MAW Country file allows for these nations from the Virgin set up

<Alliance ID="Allies" Name="Allies">
<Country ID="USA"/>
<Country ID="Britain"/>
<Country ID="Australia"/>
<Country ID="Britain_FAA"/>
<Country ID="Canada"/>
<Country ID="France_Free"/>
<Country ID="Greece"/>
<Country ID="Italy_Allied"/>
<Country ID="New_Zealand"/>
<Country ID="Other_Allied_Nations"/>
<Country ID="South_Africa"/>
<Country ID="US_Navy"/>
</Alliance>
<Alliance ID="Axis" Name="Axis">
<Country ID="Germany"/>
<Country ID="Croatia"/>
<Country ID="France_Vichy"/>
<Country ID="Hungary"/>
<Country ID="Italy"/>
<Country ID="Italy_Salo_Republic"/>
<Country ID="Other_Axis_Nations"/>
<Country ID="Romania"/>
</Alliance>

More can be added, by adjusting the Country cofig file and Pilots files. Others have more skill then I at this.
