Changing prop spin texture or animation

TeiscoDelRay

Life Time CM
Is there a way to change the prop spin animation or adjust the speed? How about the prop spin texture, I have been messing with a couple different textures trying to find one that looks somewhat realistic. The big black disc is not realistic so there must be another way.

At the bottom of each config section for each paint, add

prop_animation=1.25

This will improve the animation on most props...sometimes you need to tweak the number a bit. If you have a prop blur that looks like it is not spinning, this will fix that for sure.

Which plane(s) are you trying to improve the prop blur on? There have been a lot on replacement prop washes done by Cazzie, BananaBob and others.....tell us which plane(s) you are needing to improve and we many know of a replacement prop wash texture.

I didn't know that there was more than one way of telling the cfg how much spinning you wanted...

The entry that I use with good results is :

prop_anim_ratio=1.015

As Obio mentions, you may need to tweak the number to your liking but I found that less is far better in most of my planes... :kilroy:

Maybe the line should be Prop_anim_ratio=X. Been a while since I have added that command to any plane.

I tend to use 1.015 or 1.025 as Fleurdelys mentioned, he passed the trick on to me anyhow. :ernae:

But I have gone as high as 1.40 in achieving a blur to my liking. Of course one must have a good alpha bitmap to start with.

BIG BLACK DISK ? Sounds like the texture is the wrong format. I've played with a few prop textures and I found one that works for me- it's NOT the usual circle with the colored prop tips but a white circle with a big Z thru the middle. Looks a bit cartoonish but I like it.

With Cazzie's help I have come up with some good textures and animation but still not the look I hoped for. Why can't the 3d prop that starts spinning (before the disc and alpha take over) keep spinning only faster? I seem to remember a plane for Fs that used the 3d prop for the whole action.

Hi,

That effect would need to be built into the model. But keep in mind as you speed up the RPM's, the visible prop will *slow down and stop* - just like the animated disks do. It will even start turning backwards! That can't be changed - hard coded in FS.

Hope this helps,
