checking campaigns

Tried running different campaigns one finds in the games; many of them crash the game before completing the mission.
How do I go about checking a campaign? Is the a campaign builder I can use like a mission builder ?:kilroy:

Some Questions:

What campaigns are crashing? Do some work and some don't?

What game are you playing ETO, BoB, MAW?

At what point do they crash? Do you get any aircraft spawns?

Is there a campaign builder I can use like a mission builder ?

There is no campaign builder. You need to use a text editor.

Hi gosd,

Actually there is a campaign builder (apologies to mrjmaint :wavey:). it is under CFS3 Other in the Archives here at SOH. It is .xls based so you need Microsoft Excel to run it. It is heavily macro-based and I haven't used it in ages, but in theory if you use it all the aircraft will be available and have the correct availability dates as you won't be able to include aircraft in the campaign that either don't exist, or are not available during the timeframe of your campaign.

The file is Ca-gen 1-1.xls (there are several variants like Aircraft List). It is worth reading up on the Campaign SDK which Microsoft hosted with its other SDKs, if you are having problems with a campaign. It is in MS Word format however, so you will need to have software that can read a .doc file.

The most common problems with a campaign are related to aircraft and nationalities. Your install needs to cater for all the nationalities called for by the campaign. Also you need a bomber and a fighter (the category includes fighter_bombers) available at all times during the period of the campaign, for all participating nations. The Entered Service and Left Service entries in the aircraft .xdp file catch a lot of people out.

For example if you include four fighters for an allied nation, for a campaign running from march 1943 for 360 days. If none of the four fighters are actually available on 1 October 1943 (according to their entry and leaving dates in their xdp files) then the campaign will lock up.

HTH,
David
