Hello there! Everybody's still hard at work on X-Plane, and we've got your monthly bulletin about the news and products that make X-Plane great. Check out upcoming World Editor improvements and information about using checklists in X-Plane.
[h=2]Making WED Easier to Use[/h] We are very grateful to the numerous artists who help make X-Plane a richer experience by creating airports for the Gateway. We're committed to making the airport building experience easier and the World Editor 1.5 update will have multiple improvements to workflow. WED 1.5 will include:

  • A WYSIWYG taxi sign editor. The editor knows the syntax rules so you never create a bad sign again.
  • Better map visualization. Taxiways and runways are color coded, and ramp start icons are different sizes based on your settings.
  • Tabs to sort what's visible in the map panel. Edit only what you need to--everything else is automatically locked.
You can download the current World Editor 1.4.1 for free, then learn more about how to create or improve airports by watching video tutorials or reading the manual.
[h=2]Tips and Tricks[/h] Using a checklist is an integral part of real life flying. We'll look at how to use the Xchecklist plugin (see the link to download it below) to go through the checklist for the freeware x737 that was featured in last July's newsletter.

  1. Once you have the plugin download unzipped, open the folder and move the "Xchecklist" folder to Resources/plugins.
  2. Start X-Plane and open the x737 aircraft. Make sure you start cold & dark!
  3. Since the X737 comes with a "clist.txt" file, the Xchecklist plugin should open automatically.
  4. If you don't see it or would like to change any of its settings, go to the Plugins menu & click Xchecklist.
  5. The "copilot" will read the steps aloud and, as you complete them, check them off the list.
  6. Complete all the steps and then get flying!
You can also look online for additional free checklists such as this one for the default Cessna 172 to continue to improve your pre-flight habits.
[h=2]Featured Freeware[/h] X-Plane comes with a simple way to view a text file checklist, but for even more power over virtual checklists, grab a copy of the free Xchecklist plugin! It is available for Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems and is 64 bit compatible. It also includes a "copilot" that will read the checklist items, and even check off the list as you perform the action.
