Chu Lai scenery question

aeromed202

SOH-CM-2014
I was hopping around checking out some of the far-flung bases included in Al Simms terrific Chu Lai scenery package. Imagine my dismay when I had the old sinking aircraft problem at all the ones I tried. I used the Asia Mesh he recommends but still can't land anywhere near a base. Does anyone else have this?
I have e-mailed Al and am waiting to hear back. If anyone has a fix I'd like to know about it.

Thanks all.

Chu Lai

Other than using a helicopter from the Korean War, I didn't have any issues. I was using the stock mesh though, so I can't make a valid comparison to your set up.

Thanks for bringing up the Chu Lai scenery. I never got around to installing it until now. It's great stuff and very easy on the frame rates given all the objects and detail included with it.

Closest I ever really got to Chu Lai was from 15,000' on a flight from Da Nang to Bien Hoa.

Al says he knows about the sinking, but it's not everywhere. He has no fix available and is probably from the new mesh putting textures above the default hard surface. Only happens on two remote bases I know of so far. I will try to create hard surfaces for those, run it by him and post a fix when time permits. I's just too good a scenery to let alone.

I haven't noticed any sinking at the outlying LZ's, but I'm not using the recommended payware Asia Mesh. I use the freeware SRTM Mesh Southeast Asia by Werner F. Vogt. Available at flightsim with filename: sea1srtm.zip

Also don't forget:

2d. If you are using a terrain mesh product for that area, then look in the AddOn Scenery/VNChuLai/scenery directory and delete or otherwise remove the 3 "VNCHULAImountainsflatten" files that you find there.

Thanks Dogknot, I'm set for some investigating tomorrow I hope. And I think that's the mesh I have too. That Readme is long so I'll check to see if I missed something. The one that sinks that I know of is Tam Key. I have to check out the rest.

I did a quick check at Tam Ky...LZ SHERYL, the airport terminal, runway...and didn't have a scenery sinking problem.
