Description: Clawson-Shessi J2F Duck WW2 Skinpack by UncleTgt

This is a collection of repaints for the reworked Clawson-Shessi Grumman J2F Duck for CFS 2.

The textures are:

J2F-4 Duck, PATWING 10 December 1941: This is based on a single b/w photo appearing to show one of the few PATWING 10 aircraft to reach Australia early in 1942. It has a unique 4-colour paint scheme.

J2F-5 Duck, USN June 1944: A generic tri-camo plane from late 1943 onwards.

J2F-5 Duck, USCG November 1943: Based on the Atlantic camo pattern J2Fs used on US Coastguard Cutter Northland.

J2F-4 Duck, NAS Pearl Harbour 7th December 1941: This aircraft was present at Pearl Harbour on 7th December 1941.

J2F-5 Duck, RNAS Hatston April 1942: This aircraft was photographed at RNAS Hatston early in 1942. Presumably it was one from the ship's flight of the U.S.S. Wasp, then serving with the UK Home Fleet, & now painted in early war USN blue grey & light grey.

J2F-4 Duck, NAS Guantanamo Bay April 1942: Based at Guantanamo Bay, this aircraft still sported the 1941 Light Grey paint with early WW2 markings.

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

Thanks to:

Paul Clawson for a great aircraft.

Shessi for his work at developing this older model, remapping textures & adding details.

Bill Kestell for the seaplane effects.

Don Bodenstedt for the basic 2D panel background.

Kelticheart for his exhaust effects, & inspiration for the propeller bitmaps

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions

Clawson-Shessi J2F Duck prewar UT.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - American

Description: Clawson-Shessi J2F Duck Prewar by UncleTgt.

This is a development of Paul Clawson's Grumman J2F Duck for CFS 2. This is a complete aircraft.

The basic model was further developed by Shessi & has various unmirrored and detail enhancements, as well as being made multi-LOD. For the pre-war period this model is a rough approximation of the J2F-5 model, however With some paintwork it can be made to approximate the earlier models. The model itself has a glossy finish in keeping with the aluminium paint finish used.

The airfile uses the airfile originally posted by Bearcat241 in a thread at SOH, & subsequently modified by me.

The 2D panel & VC panel are WIN 7 friendly. They use a 2D panel background by Don Bodenstedt made for Swingman's Duck for FSX, I extensively altered and resized to make CFS 2 & WIN 7 friendly & then replaced the gauges with CFS2 friendly guages. I have tried to contact Mr. Bodenstedt for his permission to use the panel background, but have had no reply to date.

It includes the seaplane wake effect created by Bill Kestell, & the dp file makes use of kelticheart's exhaust effects.

The textures are:

J2F-2 Duck, U.S.S. Heron (AVP-2) 1940: This one belonged to the U.S.S. Heron's ship flight. The Heron (AVP-2) was the home of the PBY's of VP-21. It was not uncommon in the Asiatic Fleet for ships to paint each of their planes in full section leader's markings, as though it was the leader of a section of one aircraft.

J2F-3 Duck, U.S.S. Wasp (CV-7) 1940: This one belonged to the U.S.S. Wasp's ship flight in 1940. Because it belonged to CV-7's Air Department it didn't wear the black tail of the Wasp Air Group, but it still carried the Neutrality Star on it's nose, signifying Wasp's participation in the Neutrality Patrol.

J2F-4 Duck, VJ-2 Pearl Harbour Dec 7th 1941: This aircraft was present at Pearl Harbour on Dec 7th 1941.

Weapons used are: The Lewis Gun from the Mike Stone Walrus, Bismark 13s Beaufighter Bomb mounts, Baldy's Mk53 Depth Charge, & DBolts US 100lb bomb. All are available at SOH.

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

The basic model was further developed by Shessi & has various unmirrored and detail enhancements, as well as being made multi-LOD. The model itself has a glossy finish in keeping with the aluminium paint finish used. For the prewar period this model is a rough approximation of the J2F-2A model used by the US Marine Corps. In order to increase the firepower they doubled up the number of flexible guns carried.

It includes the seaplane wake effect created by Bill Kestell, & the dp file makes use of kelticheart's exhaust effects.

The texture is:

J2F-2A Duck, VMS-3 USMC, Haiti 1940: In the markings of Marine Scouting Squadron Three as they appeared in 1940 when VMS-3 was stationed in Haiti, hunting U-boats as a unit of the Neutrality Patrol. This was probably the Duck's only instance or service as a first line combat aircraft. This one was flown by the leader of the 3rd (blue) section.

Weapons used are: The Lewis Gun from the Mike Stone Walrus, Bismark 13s Beaufighter Bomb mounts, Baldy's Mk53 Depth Charge, & DBolts US 100lb bomb. All are available at SOH.

The basic model was further developed by Shessi & has various unmirrored and detail enhancements, as well as being made multi-LOD. The model itself has a glossy finish in keeping with the paint schemes used. For the postwar period this model includes the RDF aerial you see on the dorsal spine ahead of the tail, & is a rough approximation of the J2F-6 model.

I hate you !

Since both my wife and son were away for the afternoon, I was planning to do some tidying up and practice some sport.
But instead I spent 3 hours flying with this babe and ended up by sinking a Japanese submarine near French Polynesia.
And now my desk is still covered by paper and all sort of things, and my cholesterol level is reaching record-breaking values !

Killer job on this one ! :encouragement:

Hmm, never thought I'd have to post a health warning as part of the Readme, must remember that in future.... :triumphant:

Congratulations to UncleTgt, Shessi, Paul Clawson and everyone who contributed to this project. Super duper work everyone. :encouragement::encouragement::encouragement:

UT........

....I was away when this came out. Imagine my surprise when I come home, go through my mail, and find a US Naval Institute History mag. issue in which this plane is discussed had been delivered. I then fired up the site to see whats new, and here it is! Coincidental timing !?:biggrin-new: Great job on it!
