What do you guys use for your cloud settings?I have min set on stock 100% 3D and High density. They really look great, but they just take my performance and tear it to shreds!

I'm currently using Medium density 3D at 40%... looks great and isn't too nasty on performance... I honestly cannot tell the difference between 50% and 100% anyway, so it works well for me...

I think it was a Holger Sandmann tip (can't swear to it though), that said to use 3-D cloud percentage at 100% and Detailed clouds, as the other selections brought in even more frame killing 2D models. The Cloud coverage density is set at whatever your computer graphics can bear.

Here's my setup:

With m system I found that I get a good mix with 50% 3D clouds and cloud density set to high. If I try to bump 3D clouds to 60% I stat to get bogged down. Yeesh and I have a 8800GTS 512.

I have mine maxed, but I'd rather have the skies cloudy when they're supposed to be and put up with frames in the 10-15 range. My last rig saw cloudy skies at 2-3 frames/sec, so I'm certainly not upset to be able to see each frame as long as the Sim is still flyable.

Look at avsim for reduced cloud textures. Makes a huge difference when the cloud textures being loaded are 64 k rather than 1 meg.
