I'm not 100% certain, but perhaps 99% certain, that the Japanese followed international standards, which were, and still are, green on the right, red on the left, white on the tail.
White on the tail, red on the port wing, green on the starboard wing. Some Japanese aircraft also had the same corresponding colors on a pair of lights placed along the upper surface of the wings.
