Combat Flight Simulator 3 Campaign Map ?

when reading the Map in Campaign mode what are the three numbers that come after Axis and Allies ie." 89, 47, 68" when the small window pops open when pointing to a secter of the front line?

hi Tornado Tom, the three numbers relate to Morale, Supply and Power (MSP) IIRC. I don't have my CFS computer on but I think that when in the campaign window looking at the map, one of the buttons accesses the Campaign Readme that answers a lot of the questions about campaign play. Otherwise there is a Campaign SDK which you can donload (probably here at SOH?) which will tell you everything you didn't know and were afraid to ask about the campaign.xml file. It talks about the three parameters MSP.

In a nutshell, one strategy is to select a campaign mission along the frontline, where the Axis MSP is highest, so you can make the most impact. Also, once you have selected a square on the frontline of the campaign map, the suggested missions at the bottom of the map come marked with a star rating. The three-star missions will have the highest impact on moving the frontline in your favour (provided your mission is successful, of course).

You will only get missions offered within the fuel range of the last aircraft you flew in the campaign. Even then, you sometimes need to manage fuel carefully to make it home.

if you want to drill into things further, the campaign file that you use has a set of MSP figures for each possible campaign mission you can fly. You will find these mission parameters at the end of the campaign.xml file. they control the star ratings and priorities for different campaigns. Hence it is possible, for a BoB era campaign for example, to give the highest rating for CAP missions, reflecting the role of British fighters in the BoB. Anti_ship missions were not that common, so the stock campaign perhaps overmphasises the importance of anti-ship missions and you can easily edit this.

I once read a thread by somebody whinging about how unrealistic the stock campaign missions were, where you seem to be offered endless anti-ship missions . The thing is, usually in CFS3 it is possible to edit things to get the campaign working the way you like it.

Hope this isn't too much info,

D
