...MRC Investigations has uncovered an impending race event. Only a few snippets of the secret documents have been deciphered so far:

"trans-continental aviation", "world's best pilots are invited", the blowing sands of the Sahara"

Please stay tuned...

Oh yeah ... good news.

I'm going right now to download that camel.

BTW where is that camel download?

:wiggle:

The camel will be available for download only from a secret authorized site, run by MRC Investigations. There will be a minimum of one leg required by camel, during which GPS, VOR, DME, ADF, NDB navigation will not be allowed. :icon_lol:

Is it considered a competitive advantage to use a camel with two humps instead of just one? :mixedsmi:

That leaves 'celestial' - cool! :bump: [goes off to break out the sextant; coughs from all the dust]

Merc Air's Flight 19 School of Aerial Navigation would like to announce it's upcoming on the job training seminar in dead reckoning. We hope you find your way there....

"trans-continental aviation" I like flying.
"the blowing sands of the Sahara" I'll put the air cleaners back on.
"world's best pilots are invited" Well I'll be there anyway.

Asking too much here I reckon, but would the non-filtered camels be available?

It's just a much richer experience ... heck I'd walk a mile.

Just in case I have commandeered a nice used sedan chair with a couple of strapping locals to hoist it and carry me along my way.

Need some volunteers to sit on top and swing the big palm leaves back and forth .... hey don't knock it ... at least you'd get to ride too.

headed up to the dealer's lot to look for a newer model ... prolly not going to get much on this as a trade in ...

MRC Investigations just found this scrap of a journal that was brought in by a native and is releasing it...

Day 18. Well since the plane ran out of fuel and went down and after some real trying travel across the sands, I found this oasis at least I found water and with a few small animals coming up for water that I can trap for food, I stand a chance of survivial. Dead reckoning indeed. Now I'm stuck here waiting on help that might never come. At least I hope so before the natives come around. The tales of their treatment of outsiders are quite hair raising. But as it is I have no idea where I'm at other than in the middle of this desert. In hindsight, I should have followed the coast with it's radio beacons instead of cutting across this great desert. Should anyone find this, tell Miss Nellie that I tried.....

Hmmm ... interesting.

I think it's gettin' time for me to pack a bag ... I see some considerable travel(s) ahead.

:applause:

Just received a telegram from MRC investigations. They have decoded more information:

"In Africa, Golden Age pilots may land and refuel only at the designated airfields. They may land elsewhere without refueling. However, each such landing will incur an additional one hour "Uncertainty Cost" which is added to the total time.

This cost represents the probability that the pilot will hit a hole in an unprepared field, get detained by officials, or be kidnapped by local bandits."

Just found this advert from Imperial Airways. Looks like they don't intend to be bested in this contest. Secret weapon...
