Computing on borrowed time

A little while ago, I shut down my system and cracked it open for it's monthly cleaning...and made the horrible discovery that 6 capacitors on the MOBO are leaking. SIX! I have no idea how this system is still running, without a hiccup even. Not sure how much longer it will continue to run....I know that at some point, those capacitors are going to fail. Looks like I need to add NEW COMPUTER to the list of things that I need to save up money for.

A competent technician should be able to replace those caps. But unless you can find one to do it cheap, a new mobo might still be cheaper.

If you can wield a soldering iron with some confidence electrolytic caps are fairly easy to replace. Just make sure you replace them with the same values and that you get the polarity correct (the cases are marked).

Replacing the MOBO is most likely out of the question. This is an older system....Socket 775, Pentium 4, AGP. Might be hard to find a good board of this system.

Found a board on Ebay that would be perfect for replacing the one in my system. AGP 8X and all. Has all the same connections in terms of 2 IDE, 2 SATA, uses DDR3200 memory. Unfortunately, the auction ends in 4 hours and I have about a dollar in the bank. Sent the seller a message asking if it he/she will relist if it does not sale this time around. The board is used, but is manufacturer refurbished and has a 990 day warranty. $27 shipping and all.
